Why, in the name of all that is good, should the amount of the fine depend upon how much cash the campaign has left? Isn’t that a way of saying that the FEC doesn’t really intend to impose meaningful fines? Campaign funds don’t belong to the candidate. Using them as the pool from which the fine is paid rewards a candidate who cheats. Even with the fine, McKinney comes out $15k ahead.

This type of fine lets the FEC look like it’s doing something without actually making the violators pay. It’s typical of the way Washington works. They’re great at spending other people’s money in a way that makes them look like heroes but somehow puts the rest of us at a disadvantage.

Why not require any fine be paid directly by those who did wrong rather than their campaign supporters? Why not jail time, which might discourage the politicians from doing wrong, instead of letting them have their supporters pay for their actions?

We live in a democracy and it is okay to agree and dis-agree with one’s public policy. However, to attack someone personally is tasteless at best. Several comments on this blog are racist to the core. In addition, Cynthia McKinney’s father (Mr. James E. “Billy” McKinney) is wise man and by far, was one of the most effective legislators in the Georgia General Assembly. In addition, I do not agree with Mr. McKinney on many issues, just like his support for Mary Norwood (whom Norwood has visted the McKinney’s on a frequent basis, I wonder if Cynthia was at her parents home during those visits? ) With that said, I have the up most respect for Mr. & Mrs. McKinney and love them both dearly.

Cynthia ran the same scam twice and was caught twice.
In the 2009 case her campaign had no money left so she had to pay the $6000 fine out of her won pocket – there is some justice if you ignore where she probably got the money.
She fits in well in Berkeley.

I think in addition to paying that fine, she should have to pick up trash off of the road with her namesake…or maybe clean a federal prison floor or something like that. She is a real mess, but the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree….her daddy, Billy, is the real racist and a mean s.o.b. She had to learn it somewhere.

Seems like Atlanta Democrats only know how to represent the interests of illegal aliens as opposed to representing the interests of US citizens!

What are the Democrats going to do about illegal aliens getting free medical care at ERs in Atlanta? That costs US taxpayers resources that should be spent on US citizens!

Oh, I forgot, they will solve this dilemna by granting amnesty to all the illegal aliens and their children that we have been educating for the last 15 years at the expense of our own children.
