Laura Bush: Obama no ’socialist,’ school speech okay

Laura Bush, the former First Lady, urged respect for her husband’s successor in this CNN interview with a Paris dateline:

Referencing the uproar over Obama’s address to schoolchildren, which will be aired nationwide Tuesday, Laura Bush said it’s “really important for everyone to respect the president of the United States.”

Bush didn’t completely dismiss the concerns of some conservatives but noted that controversial Education Department plans recommending that students draft letters discussing what they can do to help Obama had been changed.

“I think there is a place for the president … to talk to schoolchildren and encourage” them, she said. Parents should follow his example and “encourage their own children to stay in school and to study hard and to try to achieve the dream that they have.”

Bush indicated that she didn’t think it was fair for Obama to be labeled a “socialist” by critics and expressed her disappointment with the intensely polarized nature of contemporary American politics.

Another reason why I love Laura Bush.

Mrs. Bush has always been gracious to everyone and I’m glad she’s showing that all conservative types aren’t on the fringe.

If Obama had not released that stupid hero worship lesson plan, then it would not have been a big deal. You add that stupid self-aggrandizing lesson plan to the gov’t take over of the Banks, GM and the new push for government-run health care; plus the recent memory of his flubbing of the belligerent Harvard professor case and now the news that he was forced to fire one of his communist, racist inner circle (Jones) jerks…then one cannot blame parents being concerned.

George Bush is still considered an American? Is he still in the country? I thought he and Cheney moved to Dubais, (the dirty rats).

Here’s an excerpt from Obama’s speech to school children:

“You want to be a nurse or an architect, a lawyer or a member of our military? You’re going to need a good education for every single one of those careers. You can’t drop out of school and just drop into a good job. You’ve got to work for it and train for it and learn for it.”

Obviously, the ravings of a marxist-socialist-communist.

To the fake Cynthia comment….hope your kids all fall in love with some one black and have tons of mixed babies. Only than you will stop your hating….or perhaps not.

Of course, NOW everyone agrees with Laura, and “hater” is what you’re supposed to call anyone who disagrees with Obama’s agenda. But these are the same people who excoriated her husband, called for his death, etc. And during Bush’s Harrison speech, which very few students were allowed to attend, let’s not forget all the haters in the streets and surroundings at Harrison High school. Of course, those were “patriotic Americans” who were bussed in to protest his appearence there and dissent with his opinion on the economy (subject of his speech)in addition to the war (which Congress had all but authorized), but apparently people have forgotten that one.

The Bush First Ladies always seemed to have sense, even though they didn’t involve themselves in their husbands policies.

I’m glad that Samuel agrees with me. President Obama should be able to speak to our young students as a sitting President. If he thinks it was wrong to protest Harrison High, then logic would dictate that he would support this President NOW! Thank you Samuel. Glad to have on board the common sense train.
