Travis Fain, who writes the Lucid Idiocy blog for the Macon Telegraph, was at Hartsfield-Jackson on Thursday evening, waiting for the Warner Robins girl softball team to return from their World Series championship a continent away.
Also there was Gov. Sonny Perdue, and Fain hazarded a few questions:
I spoke to Gov. Sonny Perdue about his game plan once his second term is up.
He said he has no plans to seek political office. He said term limits are “for a purpose,” but stopped short of saying he wouldn’t run for governor again if he could.
“I’m going to be citizen Sonny,” he said.
He said you leave office and live under the laws passed while you served.
“So you won’t be speeding,” I said.
“I won’t be ‘super speeding,’” he replied.
On the same topic, the Telegraph this week also documented a clear case of poaching:
Little League is a popular rallying point for Houston County residents, and one of the program’s ardent supporters also happens to be the area’s most widely known product — Gov. Sonny Perdue.
But Tuesday, it was a former — and potentially future — governor who was planting a flag in the land of rabid youth baseball and softball fans.
Former Gov. Roy Barnes donated $2,500 to Warner Robins American Little League President Ken Hathaway at City Hall.
“I love Little League baseball,” Barnes said. “Hopefully (the money will) make your times easier traveling.”
Barnes has announced he will run for governor again in the 2010 election. The check to WRALL was presented on behalf of his law firm, Barnes Law Group.

Governor Perdue’s pick for State Supreme Justice raises questions
Sonny Perdue began his second term under a cloud of allegations pertaining to questionable land deals in Houston County, Florida, as well as a customized tax break for the Houston County transaction.
Formal complaints about his misuse of the Governor’s office were quickly dismissed by the Republican controlled General Assembly. The fact laden complaint was then submitted to the office of the U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Georgia and nothing has been heard of it since. That office was headed by David Nahmias, who was appointed last Thursday by Perdue to fill an open seat on the Georgia Supreme Court.
Comingle Perdue’s steadfast refusal to aswer lingering questions about his actions with his appointment of Nahmias to the state’s highest court with no prior judicial experience and questions are bound to come to mind.

Provided he is not in prison for his many illegal dealings while in the Governor’s office, Sonny has already been manuvering for his next gig ….. President of the University of Georgia. The price of admission to a seat on the Board of Regents is a promise to vote for Sonny as the next President of UGA. The job pays over $600K and Sonny has lost his ass investing with Stan Thomas in questionable real estate investments,
Most folks probably didn’t pay much attention to an obscure policy change at the Board of Regents meeting last week. The Search Committee to fill vacancies is now selected by the Regents and not by the Chancellor anymore. Hmmmmm. Anybody want to guess who will chair the Search Committee??? You guessed it …. none other than good ol’ Lar-ray Wall- ker, childhood friend and fellow real estate investor.
If anybody needed another reason the vote for Roy Barnes, then that should do it! A Barnes victory OR an FEDERAL INDICTMENT by the new US Attorney are the only things that will save the UGA from a Sonny Perdue screw-up. Just wait and see.

Base, don’t be shocked if Handel (Perdue’s hand-picked successor) wins and serves one term and leaves in 2014 to allow King Sonny to run again because we’ve seen governors in other states do this before (Edwards in LA, Rhodes in OH, Wallace in AL, etc.,)

According to a comment made by SonnyGoFish, Governor Perdue’s next goal after his term as Governor is to be the President of the University of Georgia!!!! It pays $600,000 per year plus supplements and deferred compensation packages totaling over a million more.
Now we understand more about why the Governor does not want to address legislation change to make the Board of Regents accountable to someone other than themselves – he would be biting the hand that will be feeding him!
Now we understand why the Governor has chosen to look the other way and not question the Board of Regents about documented unethical practices known campus-wide for years at Macon State College and covered up by the very people at the Board of Regents that would appoint him!!
Now we understand why the Governor stated in his 10 August 2009 that the Board of Regents has “exclusive authority” to do what they want with state and foundation funds – he does not want
to “ROCK THE BOAT”…….as he is hoping to “board” that boat (no pun intended) after his term as Governor!!
