The threat posed by unemployed journalism students
The family will testify that, last night, this snippet from CNN’s “Generation Islam” provoked tears of laughter, for which I’m now heartily ashamed.
Christina Amanpour was interviewing a young university student about his decision to head up a sniper unit for the Hamas militia. The young man is hidden in a camouflaged mask with eyeholes, made by his mother. He sports an ammo vest with an automatic pistol prominently displayed.
“What do you want to be in your future?” Amanpour asks.
“I applied for a media position two days ago. And I was hired,” he replied.

As an absurdity, it ranks right up there with Tom DeLay on ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars.”

If you’re looking for even hotter absurdities you need to hang out on Twitter way more than you’re obviously doing.

Your lack of objectivity is showing. Young people go to journalism school not because they merely want to report on what is going on in the world, but because they want to upset the status quo. The story is remarkable, but not really all that absurd.
But Tom DeLay on DWTS? Yeah, that’s just wrong. I could see him on Big Brother, though.
