Wayne Hill, the former Gwinnett County Commission chairman, announced today that he’ll make another try for state House District 98.
The northwest Georgia seat is currently held by Republican Bobby Reese, now a candidate for the 9th District congressional seat.
“The time is right to bring new leadership and experience to this seat as we take care of our transportation, economic development and natural resource needs,” Hill said. “I am proud of what we have accomplished in our county, but there are many serious needs that I know we must address.”
Hill tried to unseat Reese in 2006, but was defeated in the primary — hampered by a triple heart bypass at the outset of his campaign.
The Democrat-oriented Swing State Project is reporting that another Republican House seat will be open in 2010 — this one in southwest Georgia:
Rep. Sanford Bishop has an honest-to-gosh state Rep. opposing him this time, instead of the usual token Republican opposition: Mike Keown. Bishop should face little difficulty in this black-majority district he’s held since 1992, though.
Keown, who represents House District 173, is a minister and residential contractor from Coolidge. (Hat tip to Keith McCants for that one.)

I reported that a couple of weeks ago! Do I need to start emailing you when something like that comes up that you may find interesting?

There’s a reason the wastewater treatment plant in Gwinnett is named after F. Wayne Hill.

Clarification to the above: I reported on Bishop/Keown a couple of weeks ago. I fact, I met Keown here in Albany. Real nice guy. Don’t know too much about him politically, but I’m honestly looking forward to that research.

The legislature need new blood. Hill is not new blood.
Gwinnett has too many political insiders making shady deals and I believe he is one of them.
People should understand that when you vote for the same people over and over again, you get the same crap.

There were many Gwinnett citizens who worked to unseat F. Wayne Hill when he was chairman of the Gwinnett County Commission. In fact, we still have pictures of the “Boot Hill” campaign, documented comments, video’s of how he treated the citizens, etc. I will also post some of the pictures on my Facebook page, http://www.facebook.com/brenda.d.lee?ref=profile and provide the information to a viable challenger for House District 98.

Just for clarification, Rep. Sanford Bishop’s district is not a minority majority district.

I disagree with Wayne Hill’s position on keeping all designated education money for the public school system. If people really want their tax money to go to public schools they will send their kids to public schools. If they opt not to send their kids to public school there must be a reason. Let the people’s money follow the decision they make for their kids and go to the school system where their kids are. If their kids aren’t in public school the public school doesn’t need their money.
