Health care activism forces Dick Armey to resign

Former U.S. House majority leader Dick Armey is the keynote speaker at Saturday’s anti-health care reform rally in Atlanta’s Centennial Park.

But as of today, he’s also underemployed. This from Politico.com:

Former House Majority Leader Dick Armey (R-Texas) is resigning from DLA Piper law firm amid a wave of negative attention his grassroots organization, Freedom Works, has drawn for helping to organize protesters at health care town hall meetings with members of Congress.

In an interview…Armey said that he was concerned about the media scrutiny the health care protests were drawing to the firm he has been associated with since retiring from Congress.

“The firm is busy with its business, and shouldn’t be asked to take time out from their work, to defend themselves of spurious allegations,” Armey said. “No client of this firm is going to be free to mind its own business without harassment as long as I’m associated with it.”

In a statement, DLA Piper Chairman Frank Burch said the parting was mutual.

Hi Fred, I’m all for single payer health care, as long as you’re the single payer for all of the U.S. I’m sure you don’t mind footing that whole thing, right?

Hi Greg, I’m all for single payer health care, and I hope they have mental health care coverage, because with thinking like yours, you will definitely need it, and I bet you don’t have have that in your current coverage, now do you?

Deborah, I’m sure Fred doesn’t mind footing the bill for that, either. Hopefully, there will be enough for Fred to contribute to your plastic surgery, which I’m sure you are in dire need of. Unless you have that in your current coverage. Do you?

Greg, have you told your parents how you feel about Medicare? (which is, of course, a government-run single payer system).

Once the old folks figure that part out I think the faux “Socialism” rallying cry will die down pretty quick.

Humor me for just one minute. Say, you lose your job, all of your savings are now gone because you have been out of work for the last year. Unemployment is helping you somewhat stay afloat (government program). You than realize you can apply for social security because you are now 62 years old (government program). You can also apply for medicare (your wife has a pre-existing condition (high blood pressure) and you can’t get private health insurance because 1. you can’t afford the premiums; 2. she has a pre-existing condition and the insurance companies won’t cover her. So now, you must rely on Medicare and prescription plan b for you and your wife (government programs). Or, you forgot–you served in Viet Nam and you can get veteran’s benefits (government program). Which one will you not accept because you don’t want government in your business? Which of these programs do you detest because it is a government program or socialist? All of you that are receiving any of these government programs and crying out “too much government” are big A liars! Your man lost the presidential election and you’re still mad and this is the only way you can show your distaste for President Obama. Shame on all of you!

How’s Medicare working? As long as you don’t have to worry about paying for anything, everything sounds good. And I love the way you talk about it taking “old folks” time to figure it out. I talk with my parents, do you talk with yours? How about talking with your children or grandchildren when they are old enough so you can explain why they are being saddled with debt incurred during your lifetime?

You guys crack me up. Obama has nothing to do with this except for the fact he’s pushing it. Understand this…It’s the idea of government run health care. Remember when Hilary pushed this agenda? Had never heard of Barry Obama. Hated the idea then. Still hate it now. Just for the record, it’s hysterical to me that you would include someone who served in the military during a time of war and receiving veteran’s benefits from that along the same lines as unemployment.

I have a pre-existing condition (cancer). Not only cannot I not get life insurance, other than what I’ve been paying for before the cancer diagnosis, but no health insurance company in the world will touch me. I’ve been cancer free for almost ten years. Do I want a government option? Hell yes.
For those of you who “live in the now”, god help you in the future. You’ve tied your apron strings to a private, for profit company, and think they will love you forever. Stupid people deserve what they get.

Greg Brown.
Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid (mostly all the old people in nursing homes), VA hospitals & SCHIP (medical care for kids) are all 100% guaranteed government run Socialist programs. All designed by that great 19th century German Socialist Otto von Bismarck.

Tell me you have the courage of your convictions & you will vote against any candidate for Federal office who does not promise to crusade against, and promise to end, those Socialist programs.

Since both Georgia Senators support these programs and all Georgia Congressman support these programs, I am sure you did not vote, and will not vote in the future, for any of these sorry rascals.

Nowretired, fantastic institutions that are run fabulously by the Government. That’s a Who’s Who list of badly implemented, badly run programs. I definately see the error of my thinking. If those programs are so great, so wonderful, why aren’t our Congressmen and Senators paying for those same “benefits”? Why do they have their own retirement system and Health Care? Tell me that you have the courage of your convictions and you will vote against any candidate for Federal office who does not promise to crusade for, and promise to sign up for those wonderful Socialist programs for all members of Congress.

Because the people we once trusted with defending the republic, defending the proposition that all people are created equal, with defending the nation are now calling for its demise. I promised to defend the constitution and the constitution says majority rules. The people we once trusted now say it is OK for the poor, the unfortunate and the unlucky to perish, the people we once trusted to now only defend the rich, the corporate elite and they do it by taking advantage of the weakest. When you can no longer trust them to protect those that need protecting most, then you can’t trust their claims and intentions.

That is what I have been doing for the past 30 years. I have spent a small fortune fighting against both the Republican & Democratic socialist.

One thing I have learned – there are 535 members of Congress & not a single Conservative in the bunch. There has not been a Conservative in the White House since Herbert Hoover. It has been lonely out here.
If you are really committed to getting on the train, wonderful.
There are only about 350,000 in the entire country.

One caveat, if you voted for Obama or McCann you are not yet on the train. Both socialist. Sorry.

Does the constitution really say majority rules? I thought we are a democratic republic. Anyway, when I asked you why you cared if I owned those rifles, the reasons you gave sound like really good reasons for me to own those guns and more. You too. Sounds like a good reason to stockpile weapons. But, as long as Barry is in there I think he’ll champion your causes to the best of his ability.

One can only hope that President Obama will protect us all from those that would take it by force. One can only hope that everyone would be allowed the right of medical care equality. One can only hope that the principal of one person, one vote will prevail. But I doubt that true equality can be rested from iron hand of the right wing minority. And I doubt that real freedom survives the onslaught.

Chris, I think you should really calm down. You guys have the Presidency and both houses. Get ahold of yourself. Drink a glass of wine, watch Keith Olberman, listen to some good jazz and realize, like I do, that the United States is too strong of a Nation to go belly up because of the mean, scary, right wingers, just like it’s strong enough to recover from damage done by Barry’s policies.

Chris NNC

August 14th, 2009

The fact that you refer to the president as Barry is a code word that you are one of those that would never respect the right of the majority. I am calm, and I am aware that this nation has been broken apart by bigotry before and it will probably happen again because I grew up here in south where hatred prevailed over reason. Several of my ancestors died defending the right of one person to own another no matter what they claimed to believe and several of them would happily do it again today. I don’t live in a vacuum, I am forced to listen to a couple of siblings every time I visit my 87 year old mother. They are overflowing with hatred even though I bring homegrown tomatoes without strings attached.

The current president has of yet done no damage, unlike President Bush who ran the entire nation into the worst hole since President Hoover. Hopefully, with a firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence I won’t have to protect myself from my neighbor who would happily fire a round in my direction if he knew I ever wrote this paragraph, even thought he strongly defends the second amendment and spits on the first.

The age of reason has passed if it ever existed in the first place.

Lord help them when they can’t find a friendly neighborhood insurance company to take care of them. Just like the FOR PROFIT big business, Money men took care of their own self policing system.

You need a strong government you fools! Try living a 17th century life in a 21 century world. See where it gets you! Dumb@*&es should get exactly what they ask for.

The rest of us can do without them and the crap~I am not a moron, I live in the 21st Century in the richest nation on the face of the earth, indeed in the history of nations, don’t tell me we can’t afford it. And DO NOT TELL BLISTERING IDIOTIC LIES!!

Annie, you’re right. For Profit companies are the Devil. They should be outlawed and let the federal government take care of us, cradle to the grave. This has been entertaining. It is amazing! Republicans, fascists, right wingers, manifest several observable attributes. Among them are stupidity, ignorance, greed, a desire to be deceitful, and an antisocial nature which would make them plan ahead to not use deoderant. They should learn that the word is government rather than gubment and that the government is us in cases where the presidential election is not stolen in Florida or Ohio.

I have noticed that Republicans, fascists and other right wingers would rather let American children die from lack of health care and would rather spend the money to kill children in other countries by dropping billions of dollars worth of bombs and landmines on them.

These people are self avowed, chest beating advocates of pro life but cause much more death than abortions do.

Day in the Life of Joe Middle-Class Republican

Joe gets up at 6:00am to prepare his morning coffee. He fills his pot full of good clean drinking water because some liberal fought for minimum water quality standards. He takes his daily medication with his first swallow of coffee. His medications are safe to take because some liberal fought to insure their safety and work as advertised.

All but $10.00 of his medications are paid for by his employers medical plan because some liberal union workers fought their employers for paid medical insurance, now Joe gets it too. He prepares his morning breakfast, bacon and eggs this day. Joe’s bacon is safe to eat because some liberal fought for laws to regulate the meat packing industry.

Joe takes his morning shower reaching for his shampoo; His bottle is properly labeled with every ingredient and the amount of its contents because some liberal fought for his right to know what he was putting on his body and how much it contained. Joe dresses, walks outside and takes a deep breath. The air he breathes is clean because some tree hugging liberal fought for laws to stop industries from polluting our air. He walks to the subway station for his government subsidized ride to work; it saves him considerable money in parking and transportation fees. You see, some liberal fought for affordable public transportation, which gives everyone the opportunity to be a contributor.

Joe begins his work day; he has a good job with excellent pay, medicals benefits, retirement, paid holidays and vacation because some liberal union members fought and died for these working standards. Joe’s employer pays these standards because Joe’s employer doesn’t want his employees to call the union. If Joe is hurt on the job or becomes unemployed he’ll get a worker compensation or unemployment check because some liberal didn’t think he should lose his home because of his temporary misfortune.

Its noon time, Joe needs to make a Bank Deposit so he can pay some bills. Joe’s deposit is federally insured by the FSLIC because some liberal wanted to protect Joe’s money from unscrupulous bankers who ruined the banking system before the depression.

Joe has to pay his Fannie Mae underwritten Mortgage and his below market federal student loan because some stupid liberal decided that Joe and the government would be better off if he was educated and earned more money over his life-time.

Joe is home from work, he plans to visit his father this evening at his farm home in the country. He gets in his car for the drive to dads; his car is among the safest in the world because some liberal fought for car safety standards. He arrives at his boyhood home. He was the third generation to live in the house financed by Farmers Home Administration because bankers didn’t want to make rural loans. The house didn’t have electric until some big government liberal stuck his nose where it didn’t belong and demanded rural electrification. (Those rural Republican’s would still be sitting in the dark)

He is happy to see his dad who is now retired. His dad lives on Social Security and his union pension because some liberal made sure he could take care of himself so Joe wouldn’t have to. After his visit with dad he gets back in his car for the ride home.

He turns on a radio talk show, the host’s keeps saying that liberals are bad and conservatives are good. (He doesn’t tell Joe that his beloved Republicans have fought against every protection and benefit Joe enjoys throughout his day) Joe agrees, “We don’t need those big government liberals ruining our lives; after all, I’m a self made man who believes everyone should take care of themselves, just like I have”.
