Jimmy Carter with the media at the ruins of the American International School, which was destroyed during Israel's offensive in Gaza earlier this year. Associated Press.
Former President Jimmy Carter left the Middle East on Tuesday saying he didn’t believe reports of a bomb plot to kill him while in Gaza.
This from Deanna Congelio, a spokeswoman for Carter in Atlanta, who sent an e-mail to the AJC minutes ago: “President Carter ended his trip to Lebanon, Syria, Israel, the West Bank, and Gaza today as originally planned and has departed to return home. We have no knowledge of a bomb plot against him. His visit to Gaza was without incident.”
Several local news agencies addressed the situation. A Jerusalem Post article closed with this:
Earlier Tuesday, Hamas said it foiled an attempt by Palestinian terrorists to assassinate former US president Jimmy Carter during his visit to the Gaza Strip on Tuesday, Palestinian sources told news agencies.
Another Israeli newspaper, Ha’aretz, had slightly more detail:
Carter arrived in the Hamas-ruled coastal enclave earlier Tuesday for rare talks with leaders of the otherwise internationally shunned radical Islamist movement.
Entering through the Israeli-controlled Erez crossing, north of Gaza City, his convoy immediately proceeded to north-east Gaza to inspect the damage of Israel’s December 27-January 18 offensive, launched in bid to curb rocket attacks from the strip.
A Hamas security source meanwhile said Israel briefly closed the Erez crossing point Tuesday after explosives were found near the Palestinian side of the crossing, shortly after Carter entered Gaza.
The source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said “the explosives were found on the route that Carter had passed when he entered Gaza this morning.” Carter was due to leave Gaza using the same road later Tuesday afternoon.
The Associated Press approached the topic cautiously, but included the contradictory reports and far more detail, from both Israeli and Palestinian sources:
During [Carter’s] visit, Hamas security found what appeared to be explosives buried in a sand dune next to Carter’s route. No one was hurt, and it was unclear if the former U.S. president was being targeted…..
After leaving Gaza, Carter said he did not believe reports of a bomb plot to kill him while in Gaza.
Following Carter’s entry to Gaza, five men, some wearing Hamas police uniforms, removed three large, black disks and some wire from a sand dune next to a road Carter had used.
A uniformed officer at the scene told The Associated Press that the items were explosives, but police spokesman Islam Shahwan later said that an explosives unit had found nothing.
Israeli security officials say soldiers in a lookout post spotted Hamas forces dismantling explosives. They said they passed on a warning to Carter’s security detail.
The Israeli officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were discussing classified information.

I have known Carter for a very long time, and he has become a bitter, senile old fool. He is the darling of the terrorists (Hamas) because of his anti-semitism. The hatred expressed by the far right for Mr. Carter is truly breathtaking. Mr. Carter is a great man who has made significant contributions to world peace. Jimmy Carter has a distinguished record of serving Georgia. Georgians have always been proud of Jimmy even when they disagreed with him. He did manage to win his state in the 1980 re-election despite all the problems at the time.

Carter was President of the United States of America yet one of JFK’s known assassins just made news parachuting again to try to purge his conscience of the two crewmen his cowardice murdered by parachuting off Chi-Chi-Jima. Either he is an ignorant, self-righteous fool with no mind to the cancer on our body politic now manifested as that assassin’s son’s Reichstag Fire Redux on 9/11 for more false war, or he is a more “connected” part of the problem who “smoothed the waters” after Warren Commission cover-up artist Ford pardoned the other primary leader of the CIA’s hit-team in Dallas, Richard Nixon.
The “assassination threat” is a sham. Carter is the best thing the Maronite Roman Catholics have running the Palastinians, doing the papacy’s work, which failed with Hitler, promoting death of Jews in the State of Israel,.

1. Read people – Hamas didn’t target Carter – Hamas prevented a planned attack – that would make Hamas the good guys in this situation.
2. Carter’s flaws as President was the he refused to play politics in Washington – which means he couldn’t really get anything accomplished because he and Congress didn’t play nice – and it takes both branches to do most anything. Doesn’t make him a bad guy – just means he wasn’t maybe the best President at the time.
3. If you are embarrassed that Carter is from GA you are probably one of the folks that proudly had your “W” stickers on your car as late as 2008.
4. To the person who says you know Carter and that he’s old, bitter, and senile – you don’t know Carter. I live like 2 minutes from him and talk to him all the time – he’s quite the opposite.

In spite of his obviously good works with Habitat for Humanity, the balance of this man’s legacy is appalling. Since when did capitulation to terrorists and the pursuit of a “One World Utopia” with no results depict a great man.
I agree with others………we would be much better off if he would just sit on his front porch shelling peanuts!! He certainly didn’t do anything while president other than create the mess in Iran and his current world tour is doing nothing more than stir the pot. Jimmy you didn’t accomplish ANYTHING as President, so get over it and stay at home and just rest comfortably and await your RECALL.
Let the country of Israel deal with its war mongering neighbors and let them resolve this mess once and for all………….if we had let them continue their pursuit of Hezbellah and Hamas a couple of years ago we would be much closer to an end to this mess. Let the Palestenian’s have their country with only one pre-condition………no demilitarization necessary. The first rocket that is sent Israel’s way will be met with the total destruciton of the new Palestinian State and then Israel can use the land as the new Jersulem suburbs and go about the peaceful life they desire and deserve.
Jimmy, when will you learn that the appeasement of terrorists and dictators only emboldens them. We are still suffering from the spineless years of your’s and Clinton’s administrations.

Will – You need to get some help.
Right you are: from the American People discovering the prophetic truth of Our Founder, Author, and Prophet of America:
To Samuel Kercheval
Monticello, January 19, 1810
SIR, — Yours of the 7th instant has been duly received, with the pamphlet inclosed, for which I return you my thanks. Nothing can be more exactly and seriously true than what is there stated; that but a short time elapsed after the death of the great reformer of the Jewish religion, before his principles were departed from by those who professed to be his special servants, and perverted into an engine for enslaving mankind, and aggrandising their oppressors in Church and State; that the purest system of morals ever before preached to man, has been adulterated and sophisticated by artificial constructions, into a mere contrivance to filch wealth and power to themselves; that rational men not being able to swallow their impious heresies, in order to force them down their throats, they raise the hue and cry of infidelity, while themselves are the greatest obstacles to the advancement of the real doctrines of Jesus, and do in fact constitute the real Anti-Christ.

If you need some confirmation of America’s Founder’s righteousness just download a free copy on Google Scholar of “The New Pearl Harbor,” which proves Hitler’s banker’s draft-dodging closet-queen grandson, cheated into office by only the Roman Catholics on SCOTUS, committed 9/11.
That his father and grandfather’s protege, Nixon, killed JFK to send us to die in Rome’s latifundial estate of Vietnam, further proves the whigs who founded America were right.
Rome is the Anti-Christ…btw “whig” means “anti-Roman Catholic.”

Now wouldn’t THAT have been Ironic. Jimmy Carter gets himself blown up while meddling in the place where he supposedly brought so much “lasting ” peace. He has been an embarassment to the state of Georgia his entire political carrer. He needs to get over himself and mind his own business.

and not that it matters, but I’m pretty sure it was JFK that got us into Vietnam. Not Nixon

Hamas concocts a fake bomb and “saves” Carter. Soon, Jimmuh will be wrapping his head with an Arafat-style scarf, holding an AK-47 and denouncing Israel (again). Meanwhile, Obama cuts way back on missile defense–both in Alaska and in Europe–reneging on our commitments to the Poles.
Democrats can’t be trusted with national security (or the economy, or….).

JFK ordered us out with his NSAM263 (look it up), Nixon and Nixon’s Knight of Malta-mentor’s son, GHWBush, led a Knight of Malta-led Roman Catholic CIA hit-team and killed JFK six weeks later.
Hunt v. Victor Marchetti and Liberty Lobby is the case in which it was determined by a Federal Jury that E.Howard Hunt and the CIA did it.

He has no business meddling like he does. He keeps it up he will get killed. He is a senile old school liberal that did nothing with Georgia and was a disgrace to the White House and still is.
When he finally does shut it down for the last time, I wont shed a tear. Also, he will not go down as a Martyr but as a complete joke and idiot.

Carter(No title because he doesn’t deserve it) displays a complete lack of knowledge of both history and the Scriptures. This is rather surprising given his penchant in his early political years,of reminding us all of what a great Christian teacher is is. To remove Hamas from the ” List of terrorists” is not surprising coming from Carter’s lips. He showed a complete lack of intestinal fortitude during his Presidency in his dealings with the Iranians. What a moron. Took a Governor from California and an actor at that to get our hostages back. Carter needs to shut up and ride off into the sunset and build some more houses. As another famous actor once said( A man needs to know his limitations) — Clint Eastwood
