State Department types snooping around the Capitol — which could result in a Carter’s return to Georgia politics

Here’s a multi-pronged rumor worth paying attention to:

We understand that representatives of the U.S. State Department have been in the Capitol, asking background questions about state Sen. David Adelman (D-Decatur). Republican and Democratic colleagues have been interviewed, we’re told.

Adelman, an attorney, was an early Barack Obama supporter, and helped spearhead the state effort that won 47 percent of the vote in November. He worked in the Iowa caucus for Obama as well.

Among those interested in replacing Adelman — should an appointment arise — is Jason Carter, an Atlanta attorney and grandson of the former president. Jason Carter’s dad, Jack, ran unsuccessfully for the U.S. Senate in 2006, from Nevada.

Jimmy Carter, of course, started his political career as a state senator from Plains in the 1960s. His grandson, Jason Carter, was spotted working the largest Democratic crowd of the season last month, the Jefferson-Jackson Day fund-raiser.

Jason Carter is a co-founder of Democrats Work, a volunteer group.

A note on the ignorance of Georgia high school students: On yesterday’s broadcast of “High Q” (WSBTV, Sunday afternoon), some of Georgia’s brightest HS brainiacs competed in an adacemic competition. When asked which US President was a graduate of the Naval Acadamy and studied nuclear (pronounced NU-klee-ar) physics, BOTH teams (Harrison, and I forget the other) answered “Eisenhower.” D’OH!

Who’s been running this state, and our public “education” systme for the last several years?

At least Jimmy gave us 18% interest rates! With that good deed we now know what the
coming years from odumbo and his economic nut jobs holds in store for us.
Enjoy the rising interests rates, unbearable national debt, inflation and depression wimpy sheep!

Well, an interesting turn. Don’t know what State has for Adelman but Ole Betty thinks he is a pretty good fellow. As for Jason Carter, he’s one of the good ones too and would do a fine job down at the Gold Dome. He has done a good job with “Democrats Work” which has rehab’d houses, helped clean up the hooch, cleaned up after damaging storms, in other words done a good turn to the citizens of Ga. No, he’s no casper milktoast: just a clean-cut, bright, interesting young lawyer who thinks that it is appropriate to give back to the State that has given you so much. Betty says she would vote for him in a South Ga Minute. Betty Boop

And the right-wing namejacking continues. This guy’s so frustrated that he can’t beat my arguments that he posts phony messages on EVERY SINGLE TOPIC in my name!

What a sad little right-wing loser–but that’s redundant, isn’t it? (chuckle)

Is Jason THAT Jason from the horror flick? If he’s related to Jimmy, he surely is.

We already have another Carter “saving” us. That
would be Barack Hussein Carter/Obama, aka, President
Pantywaist. What’s this kid going to do, apologize
to the entire world for our existence? Give us all a
break, please. We cannot stand much more of this,
and whatever Democracy Works might be, I bet it has
some similiarities to a poison tree sprouting from
a bad “ACORN”.

Jason is well-known and well-respected among Democrats in Georgia. I can’t think of a better person to represent fair-minded, progressive Georgians who view democracy as the government for ALL persons.

Well since all you repukes start your hate on this man for being related to a former US president, what are you going to do for this state? other than blogging your hate for someone of a different idea, what have you done for someone in need in this state. It must be a really sad life to get up everyday and unleash your petty words of hate. Nothing positive comes out. Is this what you expose your family to? No wonder the state of Georgia is considered so backwards.

Hmmm. Something seems incongruous about that post, M. Anthony.

If Jason Carter is anything like our very worst President (and even worst exPresident) Jimmy Carter we sure as hail don’t need him in Georgia or US politics. With such “gifts to the US and the world” as Jimmy Carter’s “Community Reinvestment Act”, his over throwing of the Shah of Iran, his hamstringing of the CIA and NSA degrading our nationsecurity, with his help to put in place the new dictator of Venzuela, his negotiations with North Korea, just a few of examples – the USA and the world don’t need another like him!

Gatorman: “If Jason Carter is anything like our very worst President”

No, I don’t see any indications that he’s much like G.W. Bush at all. No fear on that score!

Matilda, honey. Betty B shares your pain. Unfortunately, children of this state share the pain of 8 years of Repugnican mismanagement, educators who’d rather have a facelist with public funds than lift the profile of students, a Gubnor who would rather pander to the sheet-waring, confederate flag-waving good ole boys who have no more knowledge of history than the kids are getting. It is easy to point fingers and snub noses at a young man who has taken a personal responsibility for helping people who are having a hard time.

I wonder how many of Jimmhy’s critics have ever been considered for a Nobel Prize or how many of them have written a book or even read one? A bunch of ole boys scratchin their hairy beer bellies critcising their betters is really pathetic.

We’re lucky to have a young man who evidently learned something of Jimmy’s compassion coming along.

Well, if many of us spent our time, while collecting a fine pension (still unearned) lobbying for a noble peace prize, like Jimmy, we wouldn’t have time to fill the burger bags at Krystals, now would we?

If Adelman becomes an ambassador, there will be a long line of folks aiming for this seat. From one side of that district to the other, there are a number of strong leaders who have put in years of work in their community. If Stephanie Benfield decides to go for the seat, it is (or should be) hers. She has worked hard and is doing great work in the House, but would be a strong addition to the Senate.
