A dozen or so of you have passed on copies of the e-mail that Vernon Jones, the former DeKalb County CEO, apparently sent to potential supporters this morning.

Vernon Jones, the former DeKalb County CEO, during last year’s U.S. Senate campaign. Mikki K. Harris / mkharris@ajc.com
There are two versions, actually. The basic message in each: Stay tuned. One contains a broad hint that Jones thinks the Democratic field for governor, even with Roy Barnes, isn’t quite what it should be yet.
In an e-mail from the man himself, Jones thanked supporters for their support during last year’s U.S. Senate race, in which he lost a Democratic primary runoff to Jim Martin:
I share the same disappointment as many of you that Georgia’s elected leadership has failed to address critical issues like transportation, helping small businesses and farmers, and putting Georgians back to work. Although for now, I’m a spectator in the stands, I’m still watching the political game.
I encourage you to remain vigilant and let your voices be heard in the political process. I really believe what makes us great is our willingness to go to bat for each other; to help one another; to do whatever we can to make life just a little bit better.
The final chapter of my political career has yet to be written. Your input and advice are important to me as I contemplate my future and how we – together – can make a difference.
The other e-mail was from his communications director, Camille Kesler. A communications director implies a campaign of some sort. Quoth Kesler:
Vernon Jones has been getting a lot of email from you about running for Governor. I agree with you, Vernon would make a great Governor.
You recently heard from him reiterating his passion for Georgia, especially regarding addressing critical issues like transportation, education, air and water quality, and creating jobs for Georgians.
Vernon is considering all of your feedback and will make a wise decision that’s best for him, his family and all Georgians.

What are you thinking about? Your ego? Stop it already. You can’t win a bid for Governor for god’s sake. This has got to be the stupidest political move Vernon has ever made. Vernon, look for something that makes sense–running for Governor is not the way to go. Wasting our time and wasting time taking money from people that truly like you makes me think you truly are just out for yourself and your silly pride from losing to Jim Martin. Get over yourself or move out of state and run.

Here’s your chance Georgia Democrats.
Vernon is a “clean, articulate” African-American. He’s a Democrat. We all know he wears really nice suits (Boss or Armani, I believe). In short, here’s your chance to put your money where your mouth is. Since you people like to employ identify politics, think of Vernon Jones as The Southern Barack Obama. And vote early and often. No need to bring voter ID.

I don’t know much about Mr. Jones yet, so I’ll do some research. In the meantime, I’ll watch how hard the wingnuts work at discrediting and attacking him, since anything they despise HAS to be good for Georgia.

Vernon threatened the candidate I worked for on multiple occasions. He threatened my candidate’s livelihood and family.
He is a smooth talking politician in the guise of Sharpe James (shout out to all you wonks out there).
Terrible move to wait this long after the election. Vernon should’ve taken up some kind of initiative to tout in a future run.
Should he actually decide to run for something… Let’s sacrifice him to the wolves and have him run for Lt. Gov. No ones gonna touch that race against Cagle. Let Vernon carry that torch! I mean, he’s got a history of touching things when they shouldn’t be touched whether it be a legal issue or just common sense.

As a moderate democrat and long-time resident of Dekalb County I’m disappointed to read this. Vernon Jones has spent most of his political career bullying and backroom dealing his way into power. Georgia deserves better than Vernon Jones.

CopyLeft, just meet the man. It’s not just the wingnuts who have a problem, it’s any SANE Georgian who has ever met him or seen the corruption with which he ruled Dekalb County. Voting for Bush was only one way he tarnished the name of Democrats everywhere, and I’m disappointed he wasn’t formally kicked out of the Party for being so completely devoid of anything resembling a value or a moral.

Once Vernon enters and loses against Barnes, he’ll find another impossible, high level office he thinks he’s qualified for. No one wants him as a Senator; NO ONE will want him as Governor. Next he’ll set his sights on John Lewis’ or David Scott’s Congressional seat. Once he loses that, he’ll focus on Sec of State or GA Labor Commissioner. With the exception of Dekalb Co CEO, the man is a life long loser. He almost got fired from BellSouth where he was nothing more than a lowly sales rep. I still know people there(now AT&T) that collected some of his racist emails a dozen or so years ago. He’s a walking disaster. He and Cynthia McKinney should find other states to screw up. At least she moved to California. Vernon, there are 49 other states….why Georgia? Everyone is on to you. If you’re reading this, take a hint. No one is buying what you are selling.

Lot of similarities in Jones and Obama… but, Jones should have been locked up long ago…he is a criminal in the 1st degree of every side of bad.. not about his color at all..just total lack of character, ethics, morale…and the list goes on.. his methods to get what he has and the way that he has handled them tells his entire story..!!! yes, there are a lot of crooks in politics, but no place for a ‘career criminal’ like Jones… and, for the ‘race’ advocates, he treats his own people worse than his adverse race peers…!!!

Vernon is a loser, a bully and a sorry excuse for a man. Just as I did in the Senate run, I will do everything within my power to make sure that Vernon is not elected to any office or hold power over any human being again. When he won CEO of Dekalb County in 2000, he allegedly raped a woman. When he won re-election in 2004, he allegedly raped another woman… looks like a pattern. Please don’t elect Vernon Jones to any political office…especially not Governor. He has delusions of grandeur that for whatever reason make him believe he should rule over people. He can’t even rule over himself…and he abused every bit of power that had been given to him in the past…Georgians deserve better.

Some of these posts are unreal and quite bigoted. That said, its still hard to imagine Vernon Jones winning ANY office outside Dekalb Co. I guess he’s hoping people have a short memory. Aside from his many blunders as CEO in Dekalb-nobody’s perfect but appointing Chief Bolton ranks highest on his long list of blunders-he is also an alleged rapist. The Republicans would tear him to shreds if the VERY remote possibility of him wininng the DEM primary actually occurred.
But we don’t have to worry about that. Vernon Jones has as much chance of winning as my great grandma does.

Just more silliness from this guy. I guess he wants to stay “relevant” and keep his name in the news. He’s got about zero chance in this race. In reading this board its apparent that many are uninformed. 1. Jones didn’t even win Dekalb County in his race against Jim Martin 2. Many are still steaming over the fact that Jones photoshopped his a picture of Obama into some of his campaign fliers during his Senate run….therefore, so much for those theorizing that the black voting populace will run out and vote for him just cause he’s black.

Vernon Jones is a man of no morals. He selects people for positions such as police chief based on the color of their skin and loyalty to him, not what is best for citizens. No Vernon, you are nothing more than the black version of George Wallace and even Dekalb residents will note vote for you any more. Dekalb County resident will pay for your malfesance in office for several more years. We certainly don’t want your ilk for Governor or even dog catcher for that matter.
