Austin Scott on secession, and Mike Evans says Nancy Pelosi should go before he gets there

A pair of Republican doings this morning:

— State Rep. Austin Scott of Tifton, an underfunded candidate for governor, made news in Thomasville by drilling home on the secession issue.

This from today’s Thomasville Times Enterprise:

“As a young Republican — I’ll be 40 shortly — it bothers me that our party is talking about leaving the union,” [Scott said Wednesday.] “As Republicans, we can’t let the fact that we lost one election force us to abandon this country. It’s not going to happen under our administration.

“We are not going to be blackmailed by the federal government, but at the same time a Scott administration is not going to talk about taking the Georgia star off the United States flag.”

— This morning, former state DOT chairman Mike Evans, a candidate to replace U.S. Rep. Nathan Deal, has decided to join Newt Gingrich in his declaration of war on U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

“It’s unbelievable that a leader trusted with so much power would attack the integrity of the Intelligence community for petty political posturing. Someone this irresponsible does not deserve to serve in a role that makes her second in line to the presidency,” Evans declared in a press release.

In North Georgia, this is not viewed as a risky position.

Mike Evans did such a great job solving Atlanta’s traffic problems as DOT Chairman, he will do the same kind of great work in Congress!

Jim:

SWGAPolitics.com will have a full interview with Scott up tomorrow evening, right around 6p. Full unedited audio as well as the various individual clips. How’s THAT for open? :)

Doesn’t Austin Scott realize this whole made up thing about Republicans in GA wanting to leave the union was started by a poll conducted by the Daily KOS? Then he is so naive as to just play along.

Looks like Will Jones brother was the first poster today.
Must have that high school degree from one of those fine Atlanta public schools.
Who could be so dumb to think the D.O.T. alone can make the necessary changes
that are needed to vastly improve Georgia’s transportation issues.
Are you one of the people that helped locate Turner field so far from Marta????
I’m sure you are!

A Daily KOS poll may have surfaced the secession sentiment among Georgia GOPers, but that doesn’t make it less real — and several Republican candidates for governor are stoking it for all they’re worth. It’s a sure bet that I won’t vote for any Republican in 2010, but you have to give Austin Scott credit for going his own way.

Hey Big Jim, I cannot believe that you did not find a wau to attack Palin in this post. What is wrong? Is the anorexia fight taking its toll on you? No SNL skits to watch? I am shocked you even mentioned that lying sack of liberal garbage known as Speakerette Pelosi. Pelosi should resign her post. She is a national disgrace and her face looks funny.

We done supported secession as a right all the way back to 1776 (secession from British Empire) We supported Panama secession so we could build that canal. We supported Ukraine secession from USSR and Taiwan secession from China. Its all about money. Yankees fought secession by us cause 75% of Federal tax money came from import/export taxes on Southern states. Ain’t nothin changed. Yankee economy in the toilet & we is the cash cow. Wake up

Thank you, Mr. Scott. One half-way normal member of your increasingly lunatic fringe party. Of course, they weren’t talking about secession seven years ago (and you can thank your own fellow teabagging gov. in Texas, dear GA Confederates, not DailyKos, for stoking the flames of your 21% and falling party). Funny what one lost election will do to people’s patriotism and claimed love of their country.

Way to go Scott, looks like all the liberals here like you, too bad they won’t vote for you. That “big tent” attitude won’t get you anywhere, it’s what put the GOP in the toilet in the first place. You might do better as a Democrat here in Georgia, that’s where liberals belong.
