DailyKos poll: Nearly one-third of Georgia Republicans favor independence from U.S.

DailyKos, that rather large and influential Democratic-oriented blog, continues to make news with a statewide poll of Georgia — part of its Research 2000 project.

Nearly one-third of Georgia Republicans would be in favor of leaving the United States, its polling shows. Pause here for any ironic thoughts about the party of Abraham Lincoln that suddenly spring to mind.

Overall, only 18 percent of Georgians are ready to pack up and leave.

Even so, we are less revolutionary than our Texas brethren. In a similar poll in that state, 48 percent of Republicans said independence was preferable — 35 percent overall.

The DailyKos poll in Georgia means that state Insurance Commissioner John Oxendine, a GOP candidate for governor, was speaking to a larger constituency than many of us imagined when said this week that — if elected — he would reaffirm the state’s sovereignty under the 10th amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

Links to text and data are above, but here’s a taste of the chartage posted by Daily Kos:

The telephone survey of likely voters was conducted April 27-29, and has a margin of error of ± 4 percentage points.

I have heard that the Texas Governor’s office is getting daily phone calls from other states’ citizens asking if they can move to Texas when we secede from the United States. I wonder how many of those calls are originating from Georgia?

The best plan is for state legislatures to vote to call for a Constitutional Convention to repeal the federal income tax. Once we start approaching that magic 34 states needed for approval you’ll see the Obama/Democrat railraod to socialism crumble as congress gets scared and starts to back off their over-reaching tax & spend power grab.

Let all these secessionist yahoos whose every thought is dictated by FOX news move to Texas and give up their Social Security checks, SSI checks, welfare checks, food stamps, Medicare eligibility, Medicaid eligibility, workers comp., U.S. gov’t pensions, military pensions, U.S. gov’t retirement benefits, agricultural payments, crop insurance, flood insurance, postal system, etc., etc. etc. Texas might have to raise taxes to support all these crazos.

What is this going to achieve? Makign the economy worse? What do you want? The entire world is falling apart and they are trying to do whatever they can to fix it. Just be a MAN/WOMAN and grin and bear it. We are all here we all have the same problems. Doesnt help Georgia’s claim of wanting to leave the US when they are number 48 in education. Just makes them look a WHOLE lot worse.

Wow, the same far-righters who until very recently would question the “patriotism” of any “anti-American” who second-guessed President Bush are now calling for secession after only three months of governance from those they disagree with. That is even beyond hypocrisy — it’s pitiful and treasonous. You people are a disgrace, an obvious threat to the republic, and everything our founding fathers feared with regard to free elections and the peaceful transfer of power.

I am related to a whole slew of “conservative Republicans” who subsist on federal government largesse in the form of Social Security Disability and Medicare payments. In fact it is a cottage industry in the small conservative town they live in to try to qualify for SS disability for a variety of faux aliments, while spending one’s spare time watching FOX and complaining about the federal government handouts.

I wish you losers could leave, however, the US Supreme Court has already held that secession is illegal because it violates the perfect union. The United States is pretty much required to go to war to bring a state back in. Texas v. White, 74 U.S. 700 (1869) .

Hey Bama, do you or any of your fellow “Conservative Republicans” drive on interstate highways? Do your companies rely on them to conduct their business? Uh-huh.

Say, how many F-22 Raptors do you think the United State of Georgia could afford? None? How many M1 Abrams tanks? One?

Anyway, I thought you guys put love of country above anything (except party, of course.) I thought you guys were the super patriots, more American than the rest of us?

Now, what kind of patriot wants to abandon their country? A phony patriot?

The memo entered by Goodbye is an execellent example of Big Government gone bad. We as a Nation do not need all of these programs to take care of everyone. People need to accept that they are responsible for their own lives and not rely on SSI checks, welfare checks, food stamps, Medicare eligibility, Medicaid eligibility, workers comp., U.S. gov’t pensions, military pensions, U.S. gov’t retirement benefits, agricultural payments, crop insurance, flood insurance, postal system, etc., etc. etc. The last several years our Big Government has been telling os to invest in our own 401K program and not rely on Social Security. Not Big Government has kille the economy!

Instead of waiting for GA to leave, the US ought to jig-saw GA out of the map and fill it with water. The only thing worth a crap down there are the lakes anyway. That the people of GA are dumb enough to actually vote for the morongs who represent them ought to disqualify GA as a state in the first place – it’s really one big kindergarten class.

What does all this mean – it seems that the conservatives and Religious Right must believe that it’s not only their opinion, but rather that they are “right” on every issue and position and when a majority vote otherwise, something has gone wrong…ignorance continues to motivate fear and separation.

Everyone, stop. Listen. And pay attention.

Democrats. Republicans. Libertarians you are all way off message.

This isnt about the Federal Government vs. States’ rights. This is about the banksters and control of our money supply through the private Federal Reserve system. The same people who were starting the wars in Iraq are also bailing out the banksters with our money.

Ever wonder where money comes from? How does “currency” enter into circulation in the first place? Well, about 95% of our money supply is literally loaned into existence by the private Federal Reserve. The same people directing where the loans go are also the same ones protecting the financial system from collapse because if it collapses they will be out of power.

Support H.R. 1207 to Audit the Federal Reserve and find out where the 12+ TRILLION dollars of TALF, Maiden Lane I, Maiden Lane II, etc are going and you’ll find the largest amount of embezzlement, fraud, and money laundering in the history of modern economics. If you think the Federal Reserve is owned by the government, then you’ll be curious to know why Bloomberg was denied information about it’s funding programs because it is a PRIVATE CORPORATION.

And anyone who talks about socialism in America does not know what the definition of Socialism really is. Perhaps you should pick up a dictionary instead and look up the word FASCISM.

It is FASCISM. It is FASCISM. It is FASCISM. It is FASCISM. It is FASCISM. It is FASCISM. It is FASCISM. It is FASCISM. It is FASCISM. It is FASCISM. It is FASCISM. It is FASCISM. It is FASCISM.

Not SOCIALISM. Not SOCIALISM. Not SOCIALISM. Not SOCIALISM. Not SOCIALISM. Not SOCIALISM. Not SOCIALISM. Not SOCIALISM. Not SOCIALISM. Not SOCIALISM. Not SOCIALISM.

I agree with an ealier post. All these Republicans were telling us libs how unpatriotic we were for just disagreeing with Bush/Cheney and now THEY are wanting to secede? As we have long suspected, Republicans are patriots in their eyes only. They are traitors.

Let the “Nuts” go. I’ve been listening to yahoos all of my life who think the Confederacy was the answer. We’re stronger together, not separately.

So many people listen to Fox Network, and clowns like Sean Hannity, who take their talking points directly from anti-tax nuts or Rupert Murdoch, who is about as far right as you can get. Open your minds, people, and learn to sacrifice. That’s what made America great.

How about we Republicans simply start winning again at the state and national levels? That takes a message that is attractive and makes sense to more than 50% of people in most states.

Secede my butt. We sound like sore losers.

And if Texas and Georgia seceded, their football teams wouldn’t be able to participate in NCAA competition. That, my friends, is a deal killer.

Did anyone look past the headlines? Over 51% of citizens in this state would like to secede. That number includes 14% of the independents and 5% of the democrats. That equals 53%!! Doesn’t the majority vote count for anything in this country? I think this falls along the lines of who actually pays taxes in this country. We, as a whole are tired of carrying non-working parasites. You wait, Atlas is going to shrug real soon!

Those of you who think this is a right-wing thing, think again. Vermont, one of the left-most leaning states in the union, has talked about secession for years (google Second Vermont Republic). Funny how the “radical” wings of each party are interested in the same ideas, albeit for different reasons. Whether from the left or the right, the federal government should realize its power stem only from the consent of the governed.

Disenchanted, not enchanted.

I am a reasonably well educated Republican (I am sure most of the people making comments above will be stunned to learn such a thing exists) with multiple degrees and a handful of honors bestowed along the way. The USA has supported the break-up of a number of countries (USSR, Yugoslovia, Czech Republic) for various reasons. I find the vitriol above elicits melancholy more than anger, as I am an individual who is deeply concerned about the direction our country is taking under President Obama. Our government is set up to allow the majority to dictate the course all must follow. If the chasm between sections of the country continues to widen, the philosophical differences will exponentially increase. Instead of the anger and heated discourse, why not peacefully part ways. Liberals will be allowed to govern exactly as they please and conservatives will be able to do the same. I have no desire to impose my views on liberals and hope they have no desire to impose their will on me.
