State Insurance Commissioner John Oxendine was on WGAU (1340AM) in Athens this morning.
He continued to to accuse Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle of political meanness for an attempt to transfer of a 33-employee, $1.86 million consumer affairs division — out from under Oxendine and into the arms of the governor’s Office of Consumer Affairs.
Both Republicans are running for governor, which is made abundantly clear in this sound clip kindly sent by morning host Tim Bryant.
Said Oxendine:
I think he’s just trying to hurt me. I mean, the fact is, one of the things I talk about when I’m running for governor is the great job that we do helping the consumers of Georgia.
My consumer services division is open til 7 o’clock at night. And we collect well over $20 million every year. That’s a great success story and we talk about it. And I think it’s no surprise that all of the sudden, I start talking about that — bragging about it — saying that’s what we can do for the rest of Georgia. And have all agencies open til 7, so we can be there to serve — and he wants to take that agency away, for political reasons.

I can’t help but imagine some tears falling when he says “I think he’s just trying to hurt me.”
Sounds like Oxendine is just looking for press time. We should thank the Senate for saving money by cutting a redundant useless office.

So long as Ox continues to say that he’d veto any bill crossing his desk allowing Georgia voters to vote on Sunday alcohol sales, he will have my complete opposition. He must not understand the phrase “Freedom and Liberty for all”.

As a side note, I’m voting for John Monds – votemonds.com
