DeKalb GOP defeats measure to term abortion as ‘prenatal murder’

Republicans in DeKalb are talking about the one surprise that came out of their county convention meeting on Saturday — the defeat of a resolution that declared abortion to be “prenatal murder.”

See the the measure here.

The resolution was to have been an endorsement of H.B. 1, sponsored by state Rep. Bobby Franklin (R-Cobb County) , which has not moved this session. The language would criminalize abortion and is intended to raise a challenge to the U.S. Supreme Court’s 1973 Roe v. Wade decision.

A floor vote defeated the resolution by an estimated 60 to 40 percent.

Given the fact that local conventions generally attract the most fervent partisans, the defeat raised eyebrows. “I was flabbergasted,” said Jamie Sibold, chairman of the DeKalb GOP.

On the other hand, “people in Dunwoody and north DeKalb are more pro-choice than people think,” Sibold said. “You’ve also got to figure that we’ve got a lot of health care people in north DeKalb. These people see things a lot differently.”

I was at the DeKalb convention where this was defeated. Many people spoke up during the discussion of the resolution and voiced concerns that while the sentiment was good, the bill itself was very poorly written and should not be supported. Specifically, it was noted that it did not address what should happen to frozen embryos that were no longer wanted by the parents. The resolution also referred to ‘fertilization’ in such broad terms that it could be construed to prohibit interference with never-viable ectopic pregnancies as well. Others objected that it was simply not appropriate to interfere with the legislative process. I actually think it got voted down by much more than 60/40, the chairman barely started counting all those standing for the nay votes before confirming that the resolution failed.

The resolution in question had absolutely nothing to do with HB1. It was a resolution on personhood (HB5)that passed in all the other counties where it was submitted. Many in DeKalb attached language to the resolution that was not in the resolution itself such as your reference to HB1 and prenatal murder. The resolution simply urged legislators to allow the people of Georgia to vote on a constititional amendment that defines personhood from conception to death. Those interested in what personhood is should visit personhood.net. While Jamie Siebold is right that many in DeKalb Republican Party are pro-choice, this resolution was strictly dealing with personhood, which I whole heartedly support!!!!

Or, perhaps the support for the anti-choice nuts and religious zealots is thinner than they thought, even here in the Bible Belt?

Let’s hope so.

Denial of the American Woman’s reproductive rights is a critical facet of the strategy for restoring us the “fold” of global slavery by the Roman “Anti-Christ,” “an engine for enslaving mankind,” as Thomas Jefferson, Our Founder, called them.

Whether their “fronts” in Georgia are Baptist, like Gingrich (now an open convert to Roman Catholicism), or actual public Roman Catholics like Phil Gingrey, their goal, as stated clearly in the “National Pastoral Plan for Hispanic Ministry,” promoting illegal immigration and outlining the practices and policies to be pursued by each diocese to overthrow the American Republic, and elsewhere, is to eradicate the advances in human progress gained by our utopian Creed and the Founders’ establishment of Novus Ordo Seclorem, The New Secular Order.

The money system now crumbling was foisted of on us in 1913 by their Fifth Column Robber Barons, totally anti-thetical to E Pluribus Unum.

It is only by Annuit Coeptis and a restoration of the constitutional principles which did so much to advance The American People’s posterity, that we shall return to the American Dream.

Hitler and Sarah Palin would vote “yes” with the fascists and perverts…and dupes…who voted for the resolution in question. Thank G-d Almighty there were sufficient Americans there to vote it down, this time.

Yes, Catherine is correct in that the resolution refered specifically to HB5 and not HB1 as stated in Jim’s post. Good catch. There was still the thought that the bill created too many grey areas and that ultimately played a large part in the resolution getting voted down.

Ah, yes. Grey areas. The real world where real people live. Not frozen clumps of cells. If the GOP ever wants to win another nationwide election, they might want to try living in the real world where women control their own bodies and their own reproduction.
