GBI looks at a congressman’s stepdaughter with two jobs

The Columbus Ledger-Enquirer has this today:

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is looking into the employment of a congressman’s stepdaughter by the Muscogee County Marshal’s Office.

Aayesha Owens Reese, the stepdaughter of U.S. Congressman Sanford Bishop and daughter of Columbus Municipal Court Clerk Vivian Creighton Bishop, started working for the Junior Marshal Program on Sept. 22, 2008, city Human Resources Department records show….

Reese, who lives in Lithonia, Ga., also works full time for the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office.

“We are doing an inquiry to determine if there is any criminal conduct,” said Rodney Wall, GBI special agent in charge.

She must be very well organized (or never get any sleep) to work for 2 employers nowhere close to each other!

Did it ever occur to anyone that the Muscogee county job is part-time.

City HR is day hours as well as the District Attorneys office. Neither is open after 4:30. Now one is full time and the other is part time. Doesnt matter one bit. Shes getting paid for one job she is not performing and thats tax payer money. Just as normal, gota know someone is politics thats corrupt and it looks like we have another winner on our hands.

Crooked congressmen using taxpayer dollars to pay big money to their children for phony jobs? What else is new?? That happens all the time in local, state and the federal gov’t.

Jim Bob,

If this had been a Republican congressman, you would’ve written:

“U.S. Congressman Joe Blow, R E P U B L I C A N–YES, REPUBLICAN!!! YEA!!”

But [not] strangely, you failed to include Democrat Bishop’s political affiliation.

At least you adhere to your well-worn path as a minor member of the Drive-By Media.

Another Obamalama supporter with their hands not in the cookie jar but in the cookie factory. This country will be bankrupt, both morally and financially, before this year is out. But that is pretty typical that you work a gov job in Fulton and don’t go to work…what’s wrong with dat…ain’t none o my money.

I wonder what Rep Bishop’s political affilation is? The blog doesn’t specify.

I wonder what kind of background check was done, and did it disclose the fact that she already had a full time job?

What difference does it make what party he is affiliated with?? It’s all about morals, principles, and being honest. I believe those apply to BOTH parties, in fact, all parties.

Moral of the story – TEACH your children to be honest and to have integrity.

This is another example of why Georgia citizens deserve the BS we get because we keep electing morans to lead. It is very clear there is a conflict with this employment senario. Secondly, with all of the people unemployed, this is insulting. Congressman Bishop should immediately make a statement regarding this matter. The apple never falls far from the tree.

Folks Sandford Bishop has nothing to do with his daughters mess. The point is that Fulton County and Muscogee county need to look into who they are employing. However, again the apple never falls far from the tree.

The Truth – you need to make up your mind. First you say that Bishop should make a statement and that “The apple never falls far from the tree” But then post that he has nothing to do with his daughters mess. (Does that mean he has more than one daughter doing this?)

It is racist for the GBI to investigate Sanford’s kid. She is black. Sanford is black. Obama is half black, and therefore it is racist.

Oh surely the Bishops would not do anything ethically wrong, ….. NOW WOULD THEY?? As long as we continue to elect crooks, then look into the mirror when you want to complain. It is stuff like this that ruins governments — local and national!

The do seem to go after black elected officials with more zeal! However, His daugter is grown and know what she is getting into. I don’t think there is a story here. Many folks work two jobs. To discuse this in more detail, log onto http://www.claytononline.ning.com

Lots of folks work 2 jobs (at least one full-time) , just not two jobs with daylight hours MILES apart. Sounds fishy. What are her qualifications for the jobs? How did she get them? And how is she fulfilling her obligation to them? If the answers are above-board, great.

They wouldn’t be making no big deal out of this if that congressman and his daughter was white people, I can tell you that for sure. Just because they are black, the white racists in the georgia bureau are investigating for something that did not happen. It always the same–the white people in this state are always trying to keep the African-Americans down! Hopefully, President Obama puts a stop to this investigation when he hears about it!

To reply to Jesse’s comments…hey this chick used to work probation in decatur too….she must be jamaican with all them jobs.

You can make fun of Jamaicans all you want about all them jobs…it’s not impossible to do the jobs she has. She has a car and evidently a goal as to why she is working all these jobs. She obviously was working full-time at one and part-time at the other. It’s so funny when the majority population does the same thing we don’t see a big headline about GBI investigating. But as the old saying goes…take the beam out of your eye before you take the moat out of someone else’s.

She probably has bills to pay and see the need to work the two jobs. It’s not a crime to work two or three or however many jobs one has the capacity to do.

And finally…ease up off the Jamaican jokes…if some of you would work hard as we Jamaicans do, this place would be a much better place…and yes I am Jamaican. I work in my husband’s business, I work full-time and I work a part-time job sometimes and these jobs span over three counties!!!

I have known Sanford Bishop for a long time and “his” family; they are honorable people. I am sure Sanford will coooperate and take responsibility for what he may not have known, or should have known. Wisdom teaches us never to hire your family. Business and family don’t mixed! let us pray for Sanford, for he has helped farmers, hard working citizens, and have looked out for his constituents. This is very unfortunate; however, I am sure that Sanford will continue to be forthright and forth coming with the truth in this matter. Do not judge anyone without all of the facts. You cannot judge all apples by one bad apple. It does not take much energy to be cynical and self righteous, but it does behoove us to let justice run its course.
