The one constant of the AJC Peachtree Road Race will, for another inspiring year, remain the same. Bill Thorn said Thursday he planned to run in his 42nd Peachtree, extending his streak as the only runner to have participated in every Peachtree.
“I will be, Lord willing,” Thorn said by phone from his home in Tyrone.
Thorn, the track and cross country coach at Landmark Christian School in Fairburn, will run with his daughter Cheryl Thrasher and granddaughter Kenzie Thrasher. He expects to run the whole way and have a time in the range of 70-80 minutes. Thorn, who will turn 81 in September, has no plans to stop his streak. He exercises seven days a week, a regimen that includes strength and ab work, running, brisk walking, stationary bike and trampoline.
“I just continue to keep doing that,” Thorn said. “That’s why I can do the [Peachtree].”
