It seems that the city dubbed "to busy to hate" must have just had a huge opeining on it's calendar. Bottom line appears to be that the Residents of Buckhead were fed up with what they perceived to be a "party zone" out of control and they did something about it. I agree with some of previous comments regarding race-related perceptions of who is to blame for the current state of affairs in Buckhead and through out the Metro area. As a resident of Atlanta/Metro for the past 18 years, It appears as if our city will always be at least a couple of notches below "great cities" with thriving downtown business/social districts becuase we shun or look down upon diversity. A simple example of a metro area at odds with it's components is the status of our public transit rail system. We can not as a metro area even commit to building a more thorough, practical and efficient public rail system for our city for fear of the wrong "element" having access to areas where they are clearly feared, loathed and/or not wanted. Instead we creat seperate transist systems (Gwinnett, CCT, etc) to service individual communities. This town will never, I repeat, NEVER become a world class destination as long as the components that make up the metro area continue to want to seperate themselves from the city center. With the development and growth of venues such as the Gwinnett Arena, Verizon Concert Venue in Alpharetta, the Cobb Energy Center, the message is loud and clear that these communities don't want to have anything to do with the "City Center", not even to attend an event as generic as a music concert. I can not finish this without mentioning the "political" factors that helped to create an environment (within the city limits) where some people just dont feel safe or comfortable. You have every right to prefer to live/work/play where your comfort levels are not compromised. I'm not sure what the answer is but, until we can get beyond some of these obsticals and break down false preceptions, we can count on our 'City Center' remaining mediorce at best. Happy New Year.

Thugs ruined Buckhead, Ray Lewis and his gangster followers ruined the clubs. I can remember the days of clubbing in the 80s and early 90s when the most crazy stuff you would see might be a bar fight or such, and they get kicked out and thats it. Then when Ray(sissyboy) Lewis came to town (wish he never did) things took a turn for the worst. Literally when Im watching an NFL game and he pops onto the screen I change the channel. Frat boys being drunk and passing out in yards was the least of the problems. It was the yes, urban brothas, thugs, and no it wasnt white dudes trying to be black, every one of em I saw cruising, acosting women, etc were black males. That is not racist, thats a fact. Us buckhead native clubbers who grew up in the scene all miss the old days, but hey, maybe one day it will come back around, in a better way, on a better day!

I can vividly remember walking into the ESPN Zone two years ago on a Wednesday evening in June. Being an avid Red Wings fan, my buddy and I were looking for a place to watch the Western Conference Finals. We walk into the ESPN Zone and it's practically dead in there. We ask the host if they will put on the hockey game for us and were told NO. They literally had 3 or 4 empty rooms that we could have sat in to watch the game. We could not believe what we were being told. Like anyone cares about watching a regular season baseball game in May! When I found out that this place went out of business, I was THRILLED. Good riddance ESPN Zone. Maybe next time you'll do what your paying customers ask!

Buckhead will rise again once the economy gets better. Except this time it will become more of a luxury shopping district than a nightlife bar scene.

You know why they suck? They are supposed to be a sports bar, right?

Well do they have any boxing? NO. Ufc? No.. I called to see if they had the Brazil Argentina soccer game and 3 people on the phone didn't even have a clue as to what I was talking about. And by the way, the "thug" crowd can work at McDonalds, but when they are at a sports bar working I have no reason to sit there and endure horrible service.

God bless those who have lost there jobs. May you find jobs soon. I would like to sum up every racist remake on this blog LET GO AND LET GOD!! Some times the simplest answer is the hardest solution to derive. For those who are having a problem with said statement, GOD is the answer.

I agree with you who say buckhead "use" to be the hot spot of atl, and all the construction and closing of stores have put a tremendous damper on the place. But I will say it isn't all ab the area...because this doesn't seem to have much effect on the cheesecake factory the neighbor to espn zone. you still see the parking lot overflowing and the patio rocking and a wait on the list for 45 mins or more. Many celebs and even the mid class are showing up. The ccf has 3 other locations with in 35 miles. Booming sales at that. So something else was going on with espn.. I'm thinking it wasn't everything it was expected to be :) Lets not forget to mention little 5 points is like the new buckhead. With its neat variety of shops and restaurants and the atmosphere grows with the nightlife. if you haven't checked it out you should. Have fun guys..
