‘Life,’ ‘Due Date’ Hollywood shoots have city seeing stars

image

Actor Josh Duhamel probably looked something like this as he sunbathed Tuesday in Buckhead. Well, except for the tropical locale...

Apparently, our cooler, fall-like temps agree with actor Josh Duhamel. With his “Life As We Know It” script in hand, the actor who’s in town shooting the romantic comedy with Katherine Heigl was spotted pool-side Tuesday at the St. Regis hotel in Buckhead.

Shirtless and in swim trunks.

The former runway model and “Transformers” actor had the pool to himself Tuesday afternoon until Atlanta photographer Richie Arpino showed up with two leggy models to shoot images for an upcoming spread in The Piedmont Review.

“I walked up to him and told him, ‘You look exactly like Josh Duhamel, ‘ ” Arpino told Buzz when we bumped into him Tuesday night. “He told me, ‘That’s because I am.’ He couldn’t have been nicer.”

Naturally, the owner of the Richie Arpino hair salon invited the star into his Buckhead boutique while he’s here for a haircut.

Observed the scissors wizard: “He coulda used a trim.”

Later, the actor made his way to Virginia-Highland where the “Life” crew was filming scenes at Belly General Store. The picturesque, hard wood-floored market and cupcake emporium is serving as a set for the movie shoot. Alas, the windows have been blacked out and a temporary signage change has been made for the filming.

While at the hotel, Arpino tells us he also bumped into the very ripped personal trainer who is helping client Robert Downey Jr. maintain the physique he first achieved for the box office hit “Iron Man” and  his upcoming “Sherlock Holmes” reboot with director Guy Ritchie.

He’s in town training with Downey as the actor shoots “Due Date” that was busy filming at the Gwinnett Medical Center Tuesday.

The film’s plot, according to IMDB.com: “A high-strung father-to-be [Downey] is forced to hitch a ride with a college slacker [played by 'The Hangover' actor  Zach Galifanakis] in order to make it to his child’s birth on time.”

Actress Michelle Monaghan plays Downey’s pregnant wife in the comedy being directed by Todd Phillips, the man who also brought us “The Hangover.”

I live at the corner of N. Highland and St. Charles, where the filming took place for the last 5 days or so.

The crew completely disrupted the lives, sleep, etc. of the people living close to the set. We couldn’t park at our own building, and half of the small street was blocked off (not always even used by the people telling us we couldn’t park there). We were given no notice that our entire street/corner would be inaccessible and overrun for 5 days. Multiple crew members told me it would be only 3 (Thursday to Saturday), by the way.

What do my neighbors and I get for the disruption of our daily lives? Another romantic comedy? Ha! I’d rather take a nap in rush hour traffic.

Thanks Hollywood.

Rob,

Swallow a shotgun – rid us all of your misery.

It’s great to see our neighborhood be the backdrop for a major motion picture. The film cast and crew have been most respectful for our neighborhood and our neighbors and with the new legislation, I for one am looking forward to seeing the industry grow here in our fine city.

Rob, thank-you for being so non-sympathetic and clueless to the number of jobs this film is providing to Atlanta residents, many, your neighbors! I am currently unemployed and thanks to working on this set for a few days I’ll be able to buy groceries this week. I’m sorry that we disrupted your beauty sleep but notices were posted in the neighborhood to alert everyone this would be happening and this work has the blessing of your Governor. With unemployment at an new high I’m thrilled we are getting all of this work in Georgia and you should be too. Quit being such a cynical baby!

To “An Extra” (or anyone else): what are the best agencies/companies to get these jobs? I am unemployed too and could use the cash. Also, care to share your experience? How was the pay? The hours? What kind of work did you do?

I cut my foot on glass walking around the filming on Friday (of course I was also about seven beers in). Not as glamorous to see as it might sound.

C. and Joe…

If you are truly interested in being considered for “Extras casting” on any feature film or TV project, try doing the following: call the Georgia Film, Music, and Digital Ent. Hotline at 404-962-4055. Listen for info on Extras casting. If you still have a Polaroid camera, take a photo (no posing or posturing), if using digital use a 3×5 print of shot of chest up with a plain background. Attach cover letter stating your interest in being for work as an extra. This is not a employment cover letter. On a separate sheet, Give you name, age, DOB, address, a contact phone number where you can be reached 24/7. Also include your height, weight, coat, shirt, pants, and shoe size.

Be on time when they give you a call time, follow the AD’s and Extra casting directions when in holding and on-set, be reliable and non-disruptive. Extras rates vary depending on the scope of the project. Strangely enough, commercials pay more than features. If you do what is asked of you and are reliable, you’ll work as long there are films in the area. Word of mouth spreads fast amongst extras casting directors… Good luck!

Don’t know why nobody mentioned. it, but Jamie Foxx was at GMC shooting the scene with Downey & Galfinakis (yes, I was there & saw them). They spent the whole day shooting one scene in a Black Dodge pickup truck, Foxx behind the wheel, Downey in the passenger seat & Galafinakis on the sidewalk with a dog in a suitacase. Foxx got out of the truck & waved to some young girls who were standing the the parking lot and gawking, thereby eliciting a scream from them like I’d never heard in person.
