Do you ‘Believe’ in the Braves?

We BelieveAs the Atlanta Braves continue to improve on their wild card playoffs prospects this week, the baseball team’s front office has created the “Believe!” campaign.

Starting today, fans can go to braves.com/believe/ and download four different posters to take to the remaining regular season games at Turner Field this week.

Also, ticket prices are now as low as $6 a piece.

And FYI: Get to the ball park early tonight for the game against the Florida Marlins. Longtime WSB-TV Action News sports director Chuck Dowdle will be honored in a special pre-game celebration at 6:55 p.m.

These games represent the final Braves outings Dowdle will cover before his retirement in December after 24 years on the Atlanta sports beat. Says Braves manager Bobby Cox in a statement sent to Buzz Central: “The name Chuck Dowdle is synonymous with Atlanta sports. He’s really one of the best out there, and it’s been a pleasure having him cover our team for so many years.”

Here’s another factoid from the Braves organization about Dowdle we’ll wager you didn’t know: “Dowdle is originally from Atlanta and attended the University of Georgia where, in his freshman year, he played forward for the basketball team. He then transferred to Georgia State, where he was a pitcher for the baseball team in his junior and senior years, before graduating in 1972. While at Georgia State, Dowdle also worked part time with the Atlanta Braves ground crew.”

So, what do you think Braves fans? Can the team make it into the play-offs this season? Will you miss Chuck Dowdle at the Action News sports desk?

Wow, how about that. Peach Buzz covers the Braves just so they can plug WSB-TV, a fellow member of the Cox Family. Conflict of interest in media? Nah!

i really belive the Rockies will play the choke game down the strech. Braves deserve to be in the playoff after their miricle run. I am little worried about Josh Johnson pitching tonight, but hopefully Huddy can match him up. Its like every night we put out a quality arm and makes our changes that much greater to win night in and night out.
GO BRAVES!! i BELIEVE!

Lighten up August. AJC/Peach Buzz covers the City and the City should be damned Buzzing about the Braves miracle run. So why don’t you put your conspiracy theories on the shelf and head down to the Ted for some beer and baseball.

I was at the game last night. Very weak attendance. The good news is you could buy cheap seats and sit down at field level – all the more reason to get off your arses and get to the game.

I believe.

It seems like the Braves are finally playing like a team, they’ve gelled and are driving on all cylinders. Play-offs or no play-offs, they need to keep the same drive going heading into next season. 100 wins doesnt seem out of the question. Anything less and Bobby Cox should be fired before the season is over.

Dear Comcast,

In case you didn’t notice we the residents of Douglas, Cobb and other counties were hit very hard by rain and flooding last week. I understand your busy with restoring services so I will be brief, I am tired of having to listen to the games on the stinking radio, get me my cable back soon please. I have no money to go to the games and have missed a good portion of this run so please hurry! Week 2 with no cable is getting out of hand, do I need to call the dish? I haven’t even seen one truck in the area, your service is horrible under normal circumstances and unbearable during a crisis. I may just have to put that ugly dish and wires on my house because I can’t keep coming to my dads to get on the internet and watch sportscenter highlights.

Why are we still using Lowe as a starter? It’s that kind of misguided “loyalty” that Bobby Cox uses that put us in this position. If he would play the “hot hand” we’d be in first ahead of Philly.

It’s not up to them unfortunately. They can win out and it still might not be enough.

It would be a shame not to make the playoffs. It’s hard to believe after going 15 of 17, they’re still 2 back.

I think the Rockies are half the team the Braves are but you never know. You wouldn’t think they would win all their games, their pitching isn’t worth much of a damn but they’re playing two unimpressive teams. I don’t know what’s up with the Dodgers. How did they win all those games with no pitching and a shoddy bullpen? We just need the Brewers and Dodgers to win one.

It might be interesting if it comes down to a one game playoff. With JJ or Javy pitching, it won’t even be close.

Wow, after the blown games they suffered last month I thought this squad was done. To be where they are is truly amazing. I hope they do make it in and give us something to be proud of. I wonder how much Bobby Cox retiring after next season had to do with this recent surge? Say what you want as fans, but there is no doubt players that have and/or are playing for Bobby Cox love and respect this manager more than any player has for their manager in recent history if EVER. You’ve never seen any of those players bad-mouth, disrespect, or have a blow up with him. That says a lot about his passion for the game despite some miscued game decisions he has committed over the years. I hope they send him out on top if not this year, maybe next. For some reason I am starting to get that magical ‘91 season feeling with this team. No one on this planet had any idea that team would do what they did and I think we may be in for a sequel finally (with a better ending this time I hope). GO BRAVES!!!
