Rosalynn and Jimmy Carter

Former president Jimmy Carter will celebrate his 85th birthday Thursday  at 10:30 a.m. by hosting the grand re-opening of the Jimmy Carter Library and Museum in Atlanta.

Carter Center reps tell Buzz that the public is invited to the celebration, following a five-month major renovation. The library is located at 441 Freedom Parkway.

Among the guest speakers: Former vice-president Walter Mondale, Governor Sonny Perdue, Joseph Lowery, Atlanta mayor Shirley Franklin, Carter Library director Jay Hakes and President and Rosalynn Carter.

Free public parking will be offered on North Avenue south of City Hall East and a  shuttle service will be provided back and forth to the library.

Is there a new “Holocaust was a Hoax” wing, for Jimmy’s new found beliefs?

Most of those who criticize Jimmy Carter are not worthy to hold his hammer.

Atlanta fought very hard in the late seventies to prevent the construction of this museum. And Atlanta has largely tried its best to ignore this museum since it was forced on us. Now we have wasted another 10 million dollars to enhance the wart on Atlanta’s face. Jimmy Carter has always been an embarassment to Atlanta, to Georgia, and to the USA.

I wonder if 100+ years from now tourists will even know the Jimmy Carter Library & Museum exists. Will it be starred in italics in travel texts as a kitschy afterthought, like the John Tyler or William Henry Harrison Presidential Libraries would be today if they existed?

It seems that people in the U.S. love rewarding mediocrity and this is just another example!

atlanta did NOT fight the carter museum. atlanta WAS against was the expressways that were planned for the property that was now houses the museum and the carter presidential parkway.

i wonder if in 100 years people will look back and see what damage the conservative agenda has done to the united states. i wonder if in 100 years people will look at georgia and see what a wast the state became after playing host to millions of nobody’s who mirror the “purdue do nothing” mindset which is making georgia a haven for an army of uneducated, narrow minded, simpleton and out of touch conservatives. you won’t be able to pray your way out of the ruin.

What a waste of good brick and mortar. As for Jimmy’s hammer, I will leave the holding to Boots and other worthy citizens.

We have ways and personal feelings about a person…so while many don’t think much of the former President; that’s your right. Since he was the President of these United States of America..that earn him many rights
because he served four years given his time and life to this country. I respect him his views and give him the respect to voice his opinions just as we have those same rights many might not agree with either. We all know that once a person served as President; they do have the rights to construct what they want as it is written in federal mandate that provide such funding upon his completion of the years he serve. We might not support him or the library; but your tax dollars help in its constructions. So, even if you might not agree with him or his library, I would visit it because its your rights to do so! Regarding the former President Jimmy Carter, he know’s he is not like much by his race or many others. He deal with it and move on!

Jimmy has helped a lot of people across the world in his post presidency. He worked hard to help people get homes with habitat for humanity, he helped people with his work on curing river blindness in Africa. He won the Nobel Peace Prize. I think he has done a great job putting his faith into action, without preaching to others how to live. Happy Birthday Jimmy–Thanks for all you have done to help others.

How could the Carter man cause such chaos is the whole would. He is no doubt turned over to the mind of a Reprobate… and the ignorant “smile” keeps coming. Wise up world, we are headed for disaster.

How do you get this Stupid in just “85″ years. I’m sorry to say this, but Jimmy, you are a joke and a disgrace.

How many Habitat homes could’ve been built with that money? What a waste !! I went with my son while in Little Rock to the Clinton Library for a good laugh and quickly turned around when asked for admission money. I guess the office demands a library, no matter how bad a job you did but put it in Plains…..just another reason that the pararsitic government of the city called Atlanta cannot get people downtown. Who wants to see it except for Michael Moore ? Please Governor Perdue, release the airport from the city and watch the implosion. Hopefully, the Housewives will go with it…………

You and Roslyn suck every cent out of America that you can. You think you should live “money-free” just because we were stupid enough to vote for you one time. Has Jimmy ever really thought about the reasons he was not elected a second time? Embarrassed and ashamed that you are from my state. Keep your big mouth (& teeth) shut!!

I look around this city and state and see how backwards we are, how uneducated, how fat, how fearful. I read the ignoramus posting in these forum from angry white male conservatives, who are a shrinking majority, soon to be a minority.
We are definitely in a time of change, and Georgia is going to be left behind.

Carter has done more for this country than any other President, post Presidency. He is no less human than Nixon, Johnson, Reagan, Bush 1 and 2, and Clinton, who all had their scandals and mistakes.

Grow up, you right wing fear-based hating idiots. Or leave this country. You don’t serve the great United States any more.

It will be worth every penny if they will lock him up in one of the rooms and never let him speak again in public. I can still remember the infamous fireside chats with President Carter discussing foreign policy and nuclear proliferation with his young child Amy. What an embarrasment to Georgia and the country. On a positive note, Jimmy Carter is not the worst president our country has ever elected thanks to “I want to control the world Obama.”

Wake up people before it is too late!

Jimmy Carter has more common sense than we’ve seen in office in a very long time. He’s real, he’s honest, and he’s done more since he left office than most presidents do in a lifetime. If we’d listened to him in the 70’s maybe we wouldn’t be in the middle of the energy crisis in which we now find ourselves. To top it off, he’s a good, kind man (yes, I’ve met him). You may not agree with his political viewpoints, but at least show him the respect he certainly deserves; he would do the same for you.

To those of you outraged over the cost: are you going to express the same outrage at the GWBush library that’s already been approved and moving forward? If you think GW is going to do ANYTHING of value in his post-pres days except fill his own pockets with speaking engagements, you’re lost in your own political partiality. Say what you will about his presidential tenure, but Carter has done more on a humanitarian level than any ex-president in the entire history of our country.

Dear S, I havemet the man too and he is still an idiot and embarrassment to the State of Georgia. Did they include a room in the addition for him to have some nice quiet time to cuddle up to every dictator and despot in the world?

I will agree the man has done some good things since he was run out of the white house. If he would only keep his mouth shut and build houses it would be great.

To those of you who are upset with the money spent – get your facts right before you speak. This renovation was paid for by donations and did not come from your tax money.

Happy Birthday president Carter. Thank you for all you have done for this country. Most don’t like you because you do what you want, and you say what you feel. Keep it up, you peirce the minds of the thoughtless racist. God Bless you, and I hope you have many more birthdays.

Steve, you’re a clueless idiot. And what a surprise, we have a liberal playing the “angry white male” card. Thank you for proving, yet again, why liberalism is dying. The fact is, people like you have no clue what real racism is. Liberalism does nothing but obliterate social progress. Why? Because brain-dead lefties like you embrace hypocrisy and intolerance. You pander to those you fear and hate those you disagree with. Go away, Steve. Nobody wants your hatred.
