Love Tractor? I remember them from the 1981 movie “Athens, GA Inside/Out,” that also featured R.E.M. when they were an amateurish college town band.

Was wondering about the Love Tractor reference, as they were around in late 70’s/ early 80’s. Not sure
how he could have sat in with them being less than 10 years old. Maybe did so recently with Mark and the guys?
Sorry to hear about his untimely death.

Yes, Jon Guthrie played bass in a later incarnation of Love Tractor. Not the original 1980s line-up. But remarkably, he began gigging in bands live at age 15.

At the time Athens, GA Inside/Out was filmed R.E.M. were far from “an amateurish college town band”.

RE: “Athens, GA Inside/Out”: Check the date on the film. It was released in 1987 not 1981. REM was definitely well-established by then. Great soundtrack, by the way. Anyone know if it was ever released on CD (I listened to the cassette over and over).

Miss Marta: I hope you realize that Love Tractor was around as a band before there was a Widespread song called “Love Tractor”, which I believe was on a 1991 album.

I think “Love Tractor” morphed into “She Thinks My Tractor’s Sexy”?
Maybe I’m confused?

I saw the original Love Tractor members several times in the mid 80’s around Atlanta. Best wishes to Jon’s family.

I can’t believe you people are being petty over Love Tractor vs Widespread Panic misunderstandings. Typical Athens BS! Isn’t this article about a young talented musician who just died!!!! Y’all make me sick
