These days, most actors are thrilled to have a paying gig, period. So, Hollywood actress Carolyn Hennesy knows she’s truly lucky currently with two juicy, scene-stealing roles on the new ABC sitcom “Cougar Town” and her recurring role as mob lawyer Diane Miller on “General Hospital.”
During a recent Q&A with fans at the the Cine’ cafe and cinema in Athens, Hennesy discussed her new role as real estate agent Barbara, the queen cougar on the new Courtney Cox Arquette show and whether “G.H.’s” Diane will get whacked if “Cougar Town” becomes a hit.
“I am truly blessed,” Hennesy told Buzz. “Most actors would kill to have one of these roles come their way in a career. And Barbara? Dare I say, that she’s even more fun to play than Diane Miller, if that’s humanly possible.”
With Hennesy’s comedic timing, Barbara is poised to become “Cougar Town’s” break-out character akin to Megan Mullally’s Karen Walker on “Will & Grace” if the Bill Lawrence sitcom scores ratings in its inaugural run this week (the show airs Wednesdays at 9:30 p.m. but this Friday, ABC will air an encore of the pilot at 9:30 p.m. as well).
By day, Barbara is a straight-laced, conservative realtor but by night, she prowls the bar slooking for young men to seduce.
“She is by far the most decadent person on the show,” Hennesy says. “She’s just shameless.”
Still, the boys on the University of Georgia campus were safe during Hennesy’s visit.
“I just hope that viewers understand it’s a character I’m playing,” she says. ” In real life, I’m married and I have a lot of shame!”
Hennesy especially loves Barbara’s 60s-centric hair style.
“They don’t tease my hair, they humiliate it! We’re talking heavy shallac.”
While she’s hitting on young men these days on “Cougar Town,” “G.H.” producers are left to work Diane Miller into the soap on Hennesy’s rare off days.
“I have no idea what they’ll do,” Hennesy says. “Possibly, they’ll drop Diane into the story for a day to tell off [Port Charles mob king pin] Sonny [Corinthos] or to get some one out of jail. I can be Drive-By Diane!”
