I sort of agree with Barbara in that it was good to point out to viewers that the food sitting on her table was fattening and not good for children, however I don't believe that the food shouldn't be eaten all together- Moderation, as Deen mentioned should be practiced.. Maybe Barbara should have Dr. John E. Mayer join her show. He shares her goals in that he too is trying to fight against child obesity. He has written a wonderful book titled, "Family Fit" that is stuffed with awesome nutritional advice as well as great family activities that the whole family can do together to stay active.

I think Barbara has started believing her own press releases about how important she is. She has become a pompous @$$. Conversley, Paula is a true southern lady.

Paula reared two sons, neither of whom appear to be obese. It is not a well-balanced homecooked meal that makes children fat. It is the do-nothing, video-playing lifestyle adopted by so many of the yuppy set that makes their children fat. Kids don't walk or ride bikes anymore. Poor things are much too petted. A little sweeping, mopping, or vacuuming of the place they lay their heads would be a good start in using up the calories these kids consume. If BABS ever watched Paula's shows she'd see that not everything Paula prepares is high-carb, high-fat, or high-calorie. Paula is a sweetheart. Leave her alone, Barbara!

I was unable to submit a comment right after Paula Deen appeared on The View because of my Mother's illness. It seems Barbara thought she was interviewing Paula instead of having her as a GUEST on The View. Paula Deen is the queen of Food Network. She is loved by many, many people. I could not believe how rude Barbara was to Paula. Paula's message through the years has been to encourage your children to get in the kitchen with you. Barbara was insistant on stating the book was unhealthy, when in reality, just because the kids are baking desserts, etc. it doesn't mean these children will eat sweets all of the time. When my daughter was growing up, she started at a young age of preparing the dessert for our family every night. We all enjoyed it and she had a great feeling of accomplishment. This is not the first time Barbara has acted inappropriatly. I guess we can excuse her because, after all, she is an elderly woman (thanks to Botox or whatever she uses her looks can be deceiving.) Rachael Ray has Paula on her show today (10/02/09) and Rachael obviously "gets it" about the purpose of the book. Rachael said, "What a good way to get your kids in the kitchen with you!" I would like to add that when my daughter was in the kitchen preparing the dessert, it was a great time of bonding for us as Mother and Daughter. Barbara owes Paula an apology and Barbara also needs to learn a lesson from this! Let us all remember, Barbara is the same woman who seriously stated that her dog said, "I love you" to her!

Barbara Walters stepped way out of line with her comments to Paula Dean. Everyone knows that Paula is about southern cooking. I would almost appear that Barbara Walters had premeditated he attack on Ms. Dean. Maybe Barbara is jealous because she can't cook! We love you Paula. Parents regulate their children's diets just like they should be taking an interest in the children's education. Barbara should apologize and find another line of work.

People can take action to combat childhood obesity. The problem will not be resolved unless parents get involved. Parents need to take responsibility and teach their children about nutrition, exercise and how to eat right. They can also lead by example by taking charge of their own health.

Thank you for sharing information about this important issue.

Barbara is one rude, hateful person. Paula is one of the nicest people in the world and Barbara attacks her like that. How horrible. Barbara needs a huge piece of chocolate cake and an enema.

Moderation, moderation, moderation....whether it's moderation in eating fattening foods, or obsession with undereating, either can be the down fall to the health of an individual with producing obesity or anorexia. Criticizing our kids for eating fattening foods will make them feel guilty if they periodically endulge. Parents must be responsible in ensuring physical activity with an adequate amount of caloric intake.
