When we caught up with Savannah’s Lady & Sons co-owners Jamie and Bobby Deen Friday afternoon,  the brothers’ Borders book-signings were on Jamie’s mind.

The sons of Food Network phenom Paula Deen were in town over the weekend to sign copies of their brand-new cookbook, “The Deen Bros. Take It Easy,” (Ballantine Books, $25).

“I’m always afraid that no one will come,” Jamie told us. “If there’s no one there, you can look for me under the table.”

But neither Deen boy was cowering under the tablecloth at the book-signing table set up outside of the Borders at the Mall at Stonecrest Saturday afternoon where hundreds of fans had begun lining up early in the morning.

Surveying the line that snaked down the shopping emporium, Jamie told us: “This is very respectable. We’re excited!”

The focus of the new book is a reflection of the current recession and time-crunched families, Bobby explained.

“It was definitely on our minds when Jamie and I sat down to discuss this project. We were looking for fast, affordable meals. People may not be going out to dinner as much but we’ve all still got to eat.”

“Easy” even includes chapters on crockpot recipes and kid-friendly fare inspired by Jamie’s son Jack.

And fans were gobbling up multiple copies Saturday.

“My two daughters dragged me into coming,” DeKalb County resident Thelma Bradford told Buzz as she clutched her freshly signed book. “They’re just wonderful boys.”

Middle school teacher Laura Carlyle and her mother Elaine drove from Gainesville on a mission: Laura was going to propose to Paula Deen’s bachelor baby boy, Bobby.

“He’s just perfect for me,” Laura explained. “He’s good-looking, he loves sports, he’s a Christian and he knows how to cook.”

Sure enough, when Laura’s turn in line came, she invited Bobby to wed her at University of Georgia’s Sanford Stadium.

“Whenever you want,” Deen told her as they posed for pictures together. “Just remember to call me so I won’t be late to the wedding!”

Afterward, Laura was showing off her freshly inscribed book: “For Laura, the love of my life! Love you, Bobby Deen.”

Added Elaine with a laugh: “My daughter’s a little touched in the head!”
