Oudin’s shoes cause their own upset for Adidas

Melanie Oudin’s U.S. Open run ended Wednesday, but she may have a future in sales.  The Marietta tennis phenom’s pink and yellow mi Barricade V tennis shoes with laser etched “Believe” embroidery caused a stir during the competition helping increase traffic five-fold on miadidas.com, according to a company spokesperson.

Oudin was part of the Adidas Junior National Team and when she turned pro in 2008, the company signed her to a footwear and apparel contract.

Alas, there are no plans to mass produce the now famous shoes (which, we suppose, would kind of defeat the purpose of customization. . .), but for $140, copycats can visit miadidas.com and make their own.

Maybe Adidas should mass produce them and cash in on her good run. Isn’t that what corporations do?

They’d likely have to pay her a bit more than they are now and give her a piece of the pie. She created the shoe.

a, you are an idiot, of course if a corporation can cash in on an investment they should. Why do you think they pay money for the association of the player? It is a Win WIn situation. The more shoes that they sell, then when it comes time to renegotiat her deal she can command more money. It is called capitalism. I hope adidas makes a boatload and same with Melanie Oudin.

a, i agree, you really are an idiot. Before this week, could we say that Melanie was freeloading, taking money from Adidas without a single win under her belt? It was a speculative calculation, and they took a chance that this young lady would pay off. It’s called BUSINESS. Thank God that our American ancestors had so much more intelligence than you. We’d still be living in caves if we all had your attitude.
