Franklin joins Bloomberg to support 9/11 volunteerism

Atlanta mayor Shirley Franklin joined New York mayor Michael Bloomberg and “Private Practice” actor Tim Daly Thursday morning to announce a new national volunteerism program to honor the victims of September 11 terror attacks.

Explained Bloomberg, joined by Franklin and Daly on “Good Morning America” Thursday: “The president asked us to do this, Congress passed a bill but it’s up to the nation to turn words into actions.”

Added Franklin: “We want people to really roll up their sleeves and join a community organization to help us make cities livable places for everyone. Atlanta has a long tradition of volunteerism. This gives us an opportunity to involve school children and to involve senior citizens and the opportunity to uplift the entire community. We’re excited about it in Atlanta.”

Daly noted that on Oct 19, all of the TV networks will air community service PSAs during primetime programming.

The eighth anniversary of the 2001 9/11 attacks is Friday.

Um, you know Tim Daly’s on “PRIVATE Practice,” not “THE Practice,” right?
