Our brand-new Facebook “friend” Atlanta director Tyler Perry has sent a message to fans asking them to pray for Whitney Houston as she re-emerges on the pop scene.
Writes Perry: “Whitney Houston and I are friends. Over the last few years, I’ve gotten to know her pretty well, and with that, I’ve had the opportunity to witness a miracle up close and personal. I’ve watched her regain her strength, her fight and her faith. You have no idea how much this woman
has been through in her life and, as much as she’s shared with me, I’m sure half of it has not been told. What I know for sure is; she is a living miracle. Pretty soon you will hear her tell these stories in her own words and then I think you’ll understand.”
Perry is also a fan of Houston’s much-touted comeback album, “I Look to You.”
“It’s truly amazing,” write Perry. “When you buy it online or in the stores, whisper a prayer for her. She is truly looking to you and to God for all her strength. And do me this favor, if you will, add her to your prayer list. Pray for her as she steps back into the spotlight, as she takes back all that belongs to her. Just because she’s Whitney Houston doesn’t mean that she doesn’t need prayer, we all do.”
In another piece of news to fans, the seemingly indefatigable Perry also announced he’s contemplating a gig as a weekly talk show host.
Perry has shot a test episode set to air September 9 on TBS at 11 p.m., following his sitcom lineup on the Atlanta-based network.
Perhaps not coincidentally, all of his scheduled guests, Pastor Marvin Winans, Gladys Knight, Adam Rodriguez and Taraji P. Henson with a video by Mary J. Blige appear in his upcoming Madea comedy “Tyler Perry’s I Can Do Bad All By Myself” set to hit theaters on Sept. 11.
Our take? It sounds less like a talk show and more like an unnecessary infomercial for a movie that’s already expected to take in wheelbarrow loads of money at the box office.
Still, we admire Perry’s bravery. He’s requesting that his fiercely honest fans take to the message boards on his Website to send him feedback following the airing of his talk show hosting debut.

I will pray for Whitney success because I know how it feel to pull yourself up again. You see, we all need a second chance to learn and growth from our experiences. As humans, we need to show a loving heart so that the same love can be shown to us.

I purchased the CD Saturday and I like it. My prayers are with Whitney as she reemerges in the entertainment industry. God is a God of a million second chances. It’s humans who refuse to forgive when others fall astray.

“Pray for her as she steps back into the spotlight, as she takes back all that belongs to her”
Does that include the crack that belonged to her?
I hope she fails miserably and now I hope he does too for being such a dummy. No more ‘House of Payne’ for me, I’m done w/ Tyler Perry.

I saw Whitney’s performance and what I saw was someone who has strength and has gone through hell. God is bringing her back. I saw the look of love on her families faces when she was performing. It was obvious that they are happy she is getting healthy They love her
God is truly wonderful and I will pray for Whitney and give God thanks for His continued demonstration of faithfulness and love.
It could be you or I next
I love you TP, I love you Whitney- Be strong

“humble, and sincere celeb”… right – he’s so humble he puts his first and last name in the title of every single thing he’s involved with.
Please pray for her, he says – oh and buy her album too.

@ Miss Lady….who’s name would you suggest that Tyler use if not his own? Prayer changes things, people too! It’s so sad that we can’t support others… instead, we’d rather tear them down and keep negative energy flowing. WOW!

Has to be one of the signs of the end times when one would hope for a person who is getting her life together to stay in a wretched condition due to some crack. She is past that now! Tyler Perry could have settled anywhere now he gets bricks thrown at him. I wonder if their detractors are agnostic. They are very far from the Christian league.

@ Musykluvah … I would suggest that he not use anyone’s name in the title. Like a normal movie. And I love that the typical response to ANY criticism of one of your beloved celebrities is branded immediately as “hating.” How dare anyone criticize one of our own!?!? It doesn’t make me negative or my energy negative – it makes me a critical thinker, with a mind of my own.
Don’t worry about these celebs – they’ve got plenty of friends and family who will take care of them. Come back to reality – can you imagine what you could accomplish if you put as much energy into your own community as you do Whitney + Tyler’s business?

@ Miss Lady, Do U think you’re hating because I didn’t say that you were. The stature of TP or Whitney isn’t the issue. The fact that we can’t applaud & support the efforts of anyone from our community who has fallen from grace and risen above the ashes is. The comment made regarding whose name goes where was comical to me to say the least. As far as the rest of your commentary…well….Bless your heart.

Mr. “Ward Cleaver,” the last time i checked, Mr. Perry’s films were open to all at thousands of public movie theatres across the country. You may need to pull that head of yours out of a 1950s sitcom.
Let’s be respectful of others on here, OK?

Um, there are many things in this world and life to pray for.
Whitney Houston is not one of them. Ms. Houston needs not prayer, she needs to learn how to make proper judgments.

“Hey Richard…” You’re actually incorrect. Mr. Perry cast Kathy Bates in a lead role and other white actors to portray one of the families in “The Family That Preys.”
Still, I’m wondering why the hue of someone’s skin is important to you as far as Mr. Perry’s casting selections are concerned?
People who are familiar with Mr. Perry’s work would tell you that his themes of family and faith are intended to be universal. Mr. Perry has told me on numerous occasions that he creates films and TV shows to be enjoyed by everyone.

Tyler Perry putting his name in all of his projects is called BRANDING! It’s odd – he puts his name on projects that HE HAS CREATED and FUNDED, and people have a problem with it. Another man puts his name or a pair of jeans, a leather bag or some sneakers – and the same folk lose their minds and money trying to attain it.
If people would take a moment – just one, to research or read something other than blogs and blog comments it might just benefit you and someone else.
The man is humble – and does a lot with the millions that GOD has blessed him with to help those less fortunate and those as fortunate.
Slavery is alive and well – the shackles have just been moved from the limbs to the minds.
GOD Bless and continue to keep Tyler and Whitney because the devil stays busy!

Remember the old saying: “Walk a mile in my shoes” ? None of us have the right to judge, we can observe and question why, but not judge. And, also about walking, we must all remember the days (months, years) that The Lord has carried us (Remember Footsteps). I give Tyler a big “atta boy” for requesting prayers for a friend, in his way stating we all need help, and prayers pave the way for a stronger walk with The Lord, which is a real blessing!!!

I think everybody needs prayer. It’s obvious that many of the people who comment here need it as well (no offense intended). I have to say though that the tracks on this cd are not that good. I’m afraid my girl has ruined her voice. She may be OK in a few years, but I think she has squandered the beautiful voice that God have her. Our actions do have consequences.
