Inspired by last week’s arrest of Fall Out Boy singer Patrick Stump, former Buckhead boy John Mayer challenged celeb Website TMZ.com to find his old mugshot snapped here in 2001. The singer-songwriter, who launched his career at local venues like Eddie’s Attic and the Tabernacle, was arrested in May 2001 for speeding and driving without a license.

The performer promised TMZ founder Harvey Levin $25,000 for the charity of his choice if they unearthed his baby-faced mugshot.

TMZ did precisely that with the aid of Atlanta Department of Corrections rep Ashanti Moore, who emailed the photo to TMZ and the smokinggun.com Websites.

Mayer has now written checks for $12,500 a piece to both Pet Orphans of Southern California in Van Nuys, Calif and Ace of Hearts in Beverly Hills. The pet rescue charities were selected by Levin.

As a thank you, Ace of Hearts has named three dogs Levin, a three-year-old Shar Pei/Mastiff mix, Mayer, a three-month-old beagle/hound mix and TMZ, a one-year-old boxer/Rhodesian Ridgeback mix after the men and the Website. TMZ is reporting that the doggies were rescued last weekend from a high kill shelter in Northern California.
