Dave FM’s Jimmy Baron: ‘I’m passionate about Atlanta’

New Dave FM morning man Jimmy Baron

New Dave FM morning man Jimmy Baron

For the first time in three years, Atlantans were greeted by a familiar voice on the drive into work Monday. Just a little to the left on the dial, this time.

And former 99X Morning X morning man Jimmy Baron was thrilled to once again put his pants on in the dark.

“You counted it in months, but it was more like 792 [months] for me!” cracked Baron when Buzz rang him to inquire how his first day went. “I’m just passionate about this city and I wanted to hold out for the right thing to come along. Dave FM is a place I really wanted to work. A lot of our former listeners at the other station are Dave listeners now as well. We’ve matured together. We’re at the same places in our lives.”

Baron has lots of old friends at his new workplace as well. Most of the old 99X sales staff is now working for Dave. Plus, former 99X radio goddess Yvonne Monet is also jocking now at Dave. She serves as Baron’s morning show producer, board operator and — fingers crossed — future on-air Baron bantering buddy.

“We’re really building this show like you would a house,” explains Baron. “We’re still trying to figure out where to put the living room. And I’ve got to find out where they keep the Post-It notes over here!”

Baron’s new show airs 5:30 to 9 a.m. weekdays at 92.9 FM.

Jimmy Barron was one of the most obnoxious, narcissistic, rude DJs in the Atlanta market. He is a “has been” and maybe he will eat some humble pie this time around.

Yay Jimmy!!! I’m sad that you didn’t end up coming back to 99X but, I’m soooo glad you’re back!
Best of luck to you on your new show! When I land a new gig and have to get up in the AM again, I’m sure I’ll tune in.

Jimmy Baron is a no talent, egotistical ass who only thinks of himself and his gold digging, high maintenance wife. I for one will stop listening to Dave FM while he is on the air. He was the scurge of 99X’s morning show and brought nothing to the table worth talking about.

Barf. I miss Orff. Listening to Jimmy Baron (and Leslie Framm was on this morning, too) reminds me of being in high school. I’d rather not go back there…..

I like Jimmy. Unfortunately, the music has become stale. Please play deeper cuts. This isn’t Z-93 playing deeper classic rock songs – most “rockers” are pretty happy with the same mindless tunes over and over. Dave-FM is supposed to be catering to a more eclectic crowd, so an expanded play list is exactly what we want. What happened to Ben Harper, Ben Folds 5 and the others like them? Please stop the overload of the RHCP, Tom Petty, etc. – it’s killing the station.

Wow, I can’t believe I grew up listening to the same Jimmy Baron that some you did. I found him to be absolutely hilarious and every encounter I ever had with him (at his appearances) was utterly genuine. In fact, like many of my peers (I’m 35), I’d like to consider Jimmy a friend. And I’m certainly glad to hear him back on the air in a town that I know appreciates him (save for a few sour grapes).

Nancy – I can’t believe you would attack his wife that way. if you knew her in person, you would be eating your words. These are human beings, did they beat you up, if not, they should. how rude. This isn’t Real Housewives of Atlanta, this is a person being himself, which is in fact a wonderful human being. They are a very gracious, giving family. I have a bar of soap for you.

Is this the same lame guy who was on 99x with that vapid Leslie Fram? Hasn’t he been MIA for years? He should’ve stayed that way.

I couldn’t believe it when I heard Jimmy on air Monday morning! I’ve enjoyed listening to him in the mornings for years. It was great to hear Leslie this morning too. I look forward to listening again in the morning.

Obviously Marcia you never listened to the show when he was on 99X. If you did, you would definatley know what I am talking about. I stand by what I said. Jimmmy and his wife put themselves out into the public eye and now they need to hear what people really think about them.

whomever Nancy is, she’s a d-bag and has no clue who Jimmy Baron is and what he stands for. Jimmy and his family are some of the most genuinely wonderful people you could meet. Nancy needs to get laid, I’m fairly certain. Not it!

I was flipping the channels on the radio this morning and thought I heard a familiar voice. Jimmy, you were always better than arrogant old Barnes on 99X. Welcome back to the airwaves!

JB! Glad your back! Now let’s see if we can get Dave FM’s playlist back where it should be. I agree with Dave F. above- the music is getting stale!

(By the way- what’s the chance Toucher could come back to the ATL too?)

Listen, nobody knows what Jimmy Barron is like personally . . . his wife Lisa, after all, DOES have that public relations company that takes on clients like Ralph Reed (NOT good).
But he is an incredible entertainer. The morning X on 99X sucked after he left because he was, by far, the funniest one. Steve Barnes (no talent) and Leslie Framm (clueless 4 realreal) could not save it. I hope he does well at Dave. Atlanta could use a really entertaining morning show with great music. Maybe they’re onto something here . . .

I miss ORF and the music. Now too much mindless chatter. Who cares about the NFL or Ted Kennedy, I get my news from ESPN or CNN. Shut up and play music!

This radio station is going down hill now that they have taken Orff off the mornings on Dave FM. I am changing stations, Barnes talks toooooo much. If I want talk radio, i’ll turn it over to WSB AM radio. He was boring on 99x, and sofar nothing’s changed. That’s all I got to say.

What made Dave FM fresh and intriguing for so many, was that they actually played music. There are a dozen other morning shows out there all with their little nitch. There was only ONE radio station that actually played music. Way to completely screw up the only thing that was differentiating you from the rest of the market. Hope you put some type of clause in his contract.

Why the topic of the stuffed animals this morning? I know its an actual product marketed by the CDC but come on. It was just not appropriate or anything that ORFF would have ever done. It could have been a little more tasteful. In my opinion, if I want that kind of talk I will listen to the Regular Guys. Come on DAVE FM, listen to Atlanta, we loved ORFF!!!
