Jane Fonda debuts arresting new G-CAPP fundraiser

Poncey-Highland actress-activist Jane Fonda has transformed a 1970 police mugshot into the latest fund-raising vehicle for her Georgia Campaign for Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention non-profit here.

In November 1970, the anti-Vietnam war protester was briefly jailed in Cleveland on drug smuggling charges after airport officials found what later turned out to be vitamins in her baggage.

Now, Fonda’s fist-pumping, “Klute”-cut visage is adorning clutches, totes and T-shirts on her Web site with proceeds going to fund G-CAPP’s many state-wide programs here as the non-profit once again confronts spiking teen pregnancy rates in Fonda’s adopted state.

On her blog, Fonda tells fans:  ”I see it as a way to turn what was an awful incident (I was unjustly accused of drug smuggling and put in jail as a way for the Nixon administration to slander me) into a beneficial one.”

As the author entertains guests from Atlanta at her New Mexico ranch this week while working on her new book about aging, she’s also dishing about her recovery from knee replacement (she’s now walking without a limp).

Oh, and a new unexpected romance with veteran record producer Richard Perry (the pair, who first met decades ago, was reintroduced this summer by mutual friend Carrie Fisher). Fonda decided to go into detail about the new relationship after she and Perry were caught by TMZ’s ever-present cameras smooching in the parking lot of a trendy Los Angeles night spot.

Cracked Fonda on her blog titled “PDA (Public Display of Affection)”:  ”Hey, I’m from Atlanta and not used to cameras in every hot spot parking lot outting me. I’ll try to be more careful in the future.”

While in Los Angeles, Fonda was also invited to an A-lister listening party for Whitney Houston’s new album. The singer herself surprised Fonda when she called her to the stage during the soiree to give her a hug. Explains Fonda: “Maybe it’s the Atlanta connection. Who knows. But I was surprised and honored.”

At first I thought that was her brother with her on the couch. Hope he really doesn’t look like Peter Fonda in real person.

Jane kicks ASS! ^^^Steve, she used to have implants and has reportedly had work done to remove the bags under her eyes. She has since sworn off plastic surgery and decided to grow old gracefully which I think she has done.

too bad it never ended with her behind bars. While she is doing things for a good cause now, she has yet to make up for her treasonous actions.

I agree with Glenn, her actions when she went to a VietNam war camp are unforgivable.

Well Glenn there has been a lot of people during those times and since who have committed a lot more serious actions against people in this country and abroad all in the name of democracy than what Jane did. At least she did not hide what she was doing. And I have a DD214.

Unbelievable – anti-our troops and administration first, and now touting it as a way to make a buck. No question the cause is a good one. But I can’t believe the ends here justify the means nor the other members of the board of this organization agreed to this fund-raising promo. Hey people, where have your memories and allegiances gone? And yes, I, too, feel her actions then were unforgiveable and on a par with Nixon’s. Come back to Atlanta because everyone loves you?????? Whoever said that has his or her head stuck where the sun doesn’t shine.

Jane should have been tried for treason 38 years ago and still serving time at Ft. Leavenworth.

Jimmy Carter has done some good with Habitat for Humanity, but half the economic and national security problems we’re experiencing today goes back to his 4 years as President (Community Reinvestment Act, dropping American support for the Shah of Iran, etc.)and his help with North Korea, Lebanon and Venezuela. Jimmy should have stuck to growing peanuts and building houses.

You people who are saying she should not be forgiven after nearly 40 years are probably in need of some compassion yourselves. I’d hate to be so miserable that I would stand in judgement of someone after 40 years. Pretty sad.

gagirl – We will never forget/forgive the woman that consorted with the enemy and was photographed playing the role of an enemy gunner. Only in America could she have gotten away with it. Have you seen any North Koreans touring America lately happily pretending to shoot the soldiers of the homeland? No, you haven’t. Guys I went to high school with died in those jungles half a world away from home. Whether the Viet Nam war was just or not is still a matter of opinion. But standing up and supporting your nation is a just and honorable act. One that a good number of men and women are willing to still do today. I have a great deal of respect for those men and women. They deserve to be honored for their service. I’ll no more forget Jane Fonda’s actions than I’ll forget standing in front of the Wall in D.C. reading my friends names on a Summer afternoon.

What more can she say, what more can she do? Are you going to the grave as an unforgiving soul and if so, can you truly justify it to the Man who gave all (Matthew 18:21-35)?…”I would like to say something, not just to Vietnam veterans in New England, but to men who were in Vietnam, who I hurt, or whose pain I caused to deepen because of things that I said or did. I was trying to help end the killing and the war, but there were times when I was thoughtless and careless about it and I’m very sorry that I hurt them. And I want to apologize to them and their families. [...] I will go to my grave regretting the photograph of me in an anti-aircraft gun, which looks like I was trying to shoot at American planes. It hurt so many soldiers. It galvanized such hostility. It was the most horrible thing I could possibly have done. It was just thoughtless…”

Our losing in Vietnam, aided by this communist traitor resulted in thousand of Vietnamese people to either die or be re-educated. After this the killing fields, where 100’s of thousands died after being invaded by the North Vietnamese, can be laid to her actions. She will have to answer for these deaths when she arrives in hell-oh-my-God I hope she burns forever. THen I will forgive her, oh yeah I will, when hell-o freezes over.

For all of u venting against Jane, when you should be venting against the administrations of that time that begun that phony war (http://militaryhistory.about.com/od/vietnamwar/a/VietnamOrigins_2.htm). There were many dissenters at that time, some of who got amnesty, esp the conscientious objectors. I even had 2 brothers there @ the same time, which was supposed to be a no-no. How many of you did stupid things in your younger years that you were forgiven for later…”there go I but for the grace of God!” STOP with all the “holier than thou” comments! Jane is no more responsible for the soldiers’ deaths in Vietnam than you are! Too bad we can’t go back to reveal the skeletons in your closets that you pray others won’t find out about! Stupid mistakes…we’ve all made, should we be crucified for them…hell NO!!! And to think Christ died on the cross for our sins, including people with such an unforgiving mindset. Hey Janet, not to worry, think about what Christ endured, and his only sin was preaching Love, justice & mercy, yet people with this kind of mindset wanted to crucify (and did) him as well! “Be not weary of well doing…”

Jane,
I wonder how all the parents of the boys that never returned from vietnam feel now, think they are ready to forgive you. Sure it’s been 40 years, but that sight of you is not something that will go away soon. May God help you when you burn in hell for your sins agaist all those brave American kids.
