‘CBS Sunday Morning’ schedules Panic attack

Fans of the Athens-birthed band Widespread Panic will want to tune into this week’s edition of “CBS Sunday Morning” at 9 a.m. on CBS46.

That’s when the act and its co-founder John Bell will be featured in a 10-minute package on summer music festivals as the network commemorates the 40th anniversary this month of Woodstock.

“It’s been a real kick to have them filming,” Bell told us recently over beverages at Caribou Coffee in Midtown. “I watch and enjoy the program so when they called, I was happy to participate.”

Over the past few months, CBS camera crews have shot footage of the band as it jams at various summer festivals. Plus, JB was thrilled that cameras also captured the work being done at Cedar Heights, the wellness center he co-founded in Clarkesville with his wife Laura, a licensed counselor at the facility.

“At first, it was just about finding and restoring this old house where Laura could practice,” Bell explains. “But now we offer everything from energy enhancement services, therapy, yoga, meditation, nutrition and many of the holistic endeavors we feel strongly about. It’s come together kind of like writing a song. It’s grown into its own organism.”

Bell says he and the members of Panic are too busy creating positive energy onstage to think much about the band’s impressive 22-year legacy and its ever-growing legion of global fans.

“We honestly don’t talk too much about all that,” says JB. “We just enjoy focus on the creativity and performing for the fans. We’re very grateful for them. They’re the reason we can still do this 20 years later. I don’t ever take that for granted.”

JB is the man, sharing his soul with his fans and bandmates for so many years, ups downs and in betweens, I’ve never seen a show that he doesn’t give it every ounce he has, and then gets up the next day and does it all over again. About as pure a vocalist as anyone would be lucky to hear and as humble as any soul I’ve ever had the privilege of meeting. Needless to say I’m looking forward to seeing this interview.

You said it, Ahti! We just happened upon the CBS spot this morning and didn’t know Panic/JB would be mentioned. What a thrill! So well deserved.

I was driving home about a week ago and had a panic attack, called 911 and was driven to the er. It was the first time that I had one and really knew nothing about them
previously so was completely freaking out. Ever since I have still felt as if I wasn’t breathing correctly (like my throat is closed up), and have had pains and tightness in
my chest. I was just wondering if this was normal because I have talked to a few doctors and they said I was fine, I read up a little about panic attacks symptoms
Any ideas?
