Want to run a diagnostic check on your tear duct operations? Buzz suggests checking out the brand-new trailer for the locally shot sports flick “The Blind Side.”
The film is based on the real-life story of troubled high school football phenom Michael Oher (who is all grown up now and in Baltimore Ravens training camp currently) who was adopted by Tennessee couple Sean and Leigh Anne Touhy.
The film starring Sandra Bullock, Tim McGraw and Kathy Bates was shot in and around Atlanta this spring. And judging from the trailer, Bullock is bucking for an Oscar nomination for her role as real-life mama bear Leigh Anne Touhy.
Bullock goes blond for the role and has an accent strongly steeped in sticky sweet tea (but is ultimately about as convincing as Kyra Sedgwick’s “thank yeeeeew”-spewing Atlanta-bred Brenda Leigh Johnson on “The Closer”).
Tim McGraw as Sean Touhy, meanwhile, sports a brown toupee for his role as the sports-minded devoted dad.
The trailer’s (and perhaps the film’s) biggest surprise is up-and-coming actor Quinton Aaron who portrays Oher.
One highlight of the trailer is Bullock as Leigh Anne showing Aaron’s Michael to his new room in the Touhy’s opulent home.
“This is mine?” asks Michael looking around.
“Yes, sir,” Leigh Anne replies.
Replies Michael: “I never had one before.”
“What?” asks Leigh Anne. “A room to yourself?”
Michael replies, fingering the bedspread: “A bed.”
Oh, and did we mention the trailer is scored to The Fray’s weepy ballad “How to Save a Life?”
(See the trailer here).
Movie-goers will get to see the whole flick and many of the Atlanta locales featured in “The Blind Side” when it bows in theaters November 20.
