Atlanta music producer Jermaine Dupri is back on Twitter, touting the unprecedented sales of Michael Jackson’s music both online and at retail in the week following the pop icon’s unexpected death at age 50.
The music mogul, the longtime steady of part-time Atlantan Janet Jackson, is posting updates to his 45,619 Twitter followers from Los Angeles via his personal page, where we hear he is helping to console his girlfriend as the Jackson family prepares for Michael’s public memorial Tuesday at the Staples Center.
According to Billboard, Jackson albums scored a whopping nine out of the top 10 positions on the trade publication’s Top Pop Catalog chart last week. Fans also downloaded 2.6 million of Jackson’s tunes last week off of online music stores such as iTunes.
Tweeted Dupri of the feat: “NO ARTIST HAS EVER SOLD OVER 1 MILLION DOWNLOADS IN A WEEK NOT 2 PAC, BIGGIE, THE BEATLES, NOBODY.”
Dupri also re-posted “Thriller” producer Quincy Jones‘ personal essay originally published last week in the Los Angeles Times. In a shout out to Peach Buzz on Twitter, Dupri requested that we also post a link to the fascinating piece (Here you go, Mr. Dupri).
Dupri’s Twitter followers were also the first in the loop last Sunday during the BET Awards when he tweeted about Janet Jackson’s surprise emotional appearance to thank fans on the live broadcast.
Posted Dupri on Twitter: “Thank you for your support and make sure y’all get to the TV so y’all can see my baby.”
Many of Dupri’s Twitter followers and Jackson fans are hopeful that he will continue the updates from his unique vantage point in Los Angeles throughout the day Tuesday.
Will you follow the memorial coverage on Twitter Tuesday? Will you watch it live on TV? Or are you already on Jackson coverage overload?

I am tired of the constant coverage of Michael Jackson. I can’t believe all the boo-hooing people out there — crying like they actually knew the guy. Let it go.

Didn’t Janet Jackson indicate that she has some obsession with white men, like her entire family, more specifically, she fantasies over Barry Manilow. Now aren’t the two, Dupri and Manilow about has different as Saturn and Pluto! What gives?. The facts are, Janet Jackson don’t give a hoot about black men, and less about black people. She is only about appearances, to divert attention from her obsession for Justin Timberlake and other white males. Someone suggested this might her image, sorry Jermaine.

Michael Jackson gave the world his best which was the best. He will be truly missed! His life and death are on the world’s stage. For those of you with malice and harsh criticisms, blaze a trail and share your own gifts with the world. Start some charities, go and do it better than he did, if you can! Put positive energy into the world. If you do this, the world really will be a better place.
Long live MJ King of Pop!
