All hail Queen B! At least they did Wednesday night, when powerhouse performer Beyonce entranced a sold-out Philips Arena (photos). Who else can drive toddlers, tweens, club divas and soccer moms into a mass frenzy?
From the moment B claimed the stage with openers “Crazy In Love” and “Naughty Girl”, the energy hovered like static cling on your favorite “Freakum Dress.” She and her all-female band and backup dancers charged through sets like superhuman fembots (a handful of chilseled male dancers later joined the mix).
Whether uptempo or not, Beyonce’s powerful vocals raged through the air. Early on, she slowed things down to remind us of her awkward “Malibu Wedding Barbie” moment from the BET Awards last Sunday. But here, the white bathing suit, veil and sheer, fur-lined skirt seemed angelic (she even performed Sarah McLachlan’s “In the Arms of an Angel” to prove it).
Video clips and mixtapes continued to ease us through the short costume breaks, filled with funny or inspiring clips. Some of the best were of her as a flirty 5-year-old shimmying in the living room as well as footage of the Obamas during inauguration, where B sang the Etta James classic “At Last.”
When Beyonce morphed into a Mad Max biker chic, complete with light-up bikini, she explained, “I’m all about female empowerment … We need to support each other.” Then she broke into the ultimate Independent Woman anthem, “Me, Myself and I.” There were nods to other strong women in the industry, including B’s renditions of songs by Alanis Morisette and Jamaica’s Dawn Penn (”You Don’t Love Me”). Atlanta’s own shoulder-playing guitarist Divinity Roxx took the stage and backup singers The Mommas made us want to rush out to buy one of those “body shapers” everyone is selling.
The glitzy, high-tech robotic fantasy didn’t stop as B transitioned to her alter-ego Sasha Fierce. She took flight in waves of flowing gold fabric as she made her way, with a few midair flips, to a more intimate stage in the middle of the floor. Here, she really tried to interact with the arena, pointing out details of fans’ outfits and accessories. She even used one fan’s name when singing “Say My Name.”
We can only imagine reports of her tireless work ethic are true because she and her dancers continued to flawlessly plow through hits like “Irreplaceable” (complete with mass crowd participation directing invisible exes “to the left, to the left”), “Check up on It” and “Single Ladies” (just after a fun video montage of YouTube fans trying to do it. Lol!).
Back on the main stage, she turned the lovely ballad “Halo” into a Michael Jackson tribute: “We miss you. We love you. We thank you for all the memories.”
If there were any complaints, it’s that the finale – singing “Happy birthday” to fans – felt jarring. Still, the true testament to Beyonce’s talent is that even without the neon lights and Tina Turner tailfeathers, she has unfailing vocal prowess that is the key to her longevity. As one fan noted, “She’s been preparing for this all of her life.”

I am not the biggest Beyonce fan but I went to the concert with my sister last night. Beyonce put on a really good show from start to finish. She danced her butt off and it was great that she had the all female band, those girls got down. Can’t wait to see what Jay-Z is going to do next week.

I attended the Bee concert and was extremely disappointed. The band couldnt fake it well enough. The music was ALL recorded, like MilliVanilli, Bee wasnt singing as her voice too was recorded. Was really nothing more than an extended aerobics session.
Never again.

Probably one of the top 5 best performers/entertainers alive. If you have anything negative to say about Beyonce, you obviously did not attend the same show I did. Extraordinary!!!!

Her music is catchy enough and she can dance but I can not stand to hear her country butt speak…If she could speak properly I might consider her diva material but at this point she is just a hoochie who can dance

Yes, she just needs to get some speech lessons and polish up on her accent…it does sound stilted at times. But her singing vocal talent is undeniable!

It just do not make any sense how negative some people can be. Let’s focus on the positive. No one can deny good singer or not, Beyonce is one of the most talented people out there, and if you doubt it, check Forbes list of highest paid entertainers and while you are at it, check out who is also one of the most respected!!!! You go Beyonce!!!!!

Wow! It’s funny reading some of the comments. First of all, to the person that said that Beyonce wasn’t really singing and that the band wasn’t really playing…are you deaf? They were playing their asses off! Not only that there were moments were B was singing without the music. To the others who were talking about her speech, she cannot help that she has an accent. She is from Texas so how can you put her down on the way she speaks? That is so petty. Anyways Beyonce gave a great concert from start to finish, I was not disappointed!!! A hoochie who can dance? lol yea right, but that’s what keeps her motivated and going stronger, those that are haters are the ones that keeps her and so many other entertainers to work harder at what they do.

You haterz are so delusional…can’t even admit what you see or hear…that makes you stupid too. Any objective person can see that Beyonce IS the ultimate performer RIGHT NOW….Not any of your tired old wannabes can hang with this lady, and that must be what makes you all so jealous. Well get used to the misery you feel, cuz Bey will be around for a while. LOLLLLL

WOW…ARE YOU ALL SERIOUS ON HERE. THIS IS FOR THE ONES THAT APPARENTLY ARE JUST HATING BECAUSE SHE WAS BLESSED WITH TRUE TALENT. I PAID THE 109.00 FORT HE TICKETS AND WOULD HAVE PAID MORE. NOT ONLY SHE SHE GIVE YOU YOUR MONEY WORTH SHE GAVE MORE. SHE IS AN AMAZING PERFORMER AND THOSE OF YOU WHO CAN NOT SEE THAT ARE JUST BLIND, STUPID, AND CRAZY. I GUESS TALENT IS RAP THAT YOU CAN NOT UNDERSTAND, MEN TALKING ABOUT “F”ING EVERY GIRL IN THE WORLD, AND IDIOTS SATING HIGH SCHOOL THEY DID NOT COMPLETE. GIVE ME A BREAK. NOT ONLY WAS SHE SINGING AND THE BAND PLAYING LIVE…BUT DIDN’T SHE ALSO SING “HAPPY BIRTHDAY” ACAPELLA. BE REAL WITH YOURSELVES AND REALIZE THAT SHE IS AN ICON IN THE MAKING…THAT IS RELATABLE TO EVERYONE NO MATTER AGE, COLOR, OR GENDER.
