Stephen Colbert sends Emmys greetings to Andrew Young

Southeastern Emmys governor’s award recipient Andrew Young got an unexpected video tribute from a certain high-profile TV friend during the awards ceremony over the weekend in Atlanta.

“The Colbert Report” faux Fox News host Stephen Colbert popped up on video screens from the New York set of his Comedy Central series to greet Young.

“Hello, Southeastern chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences,” Colbert greeted the room.

“How y’all doin? Academy, you could not have picked a finer individual to receive your prestigious Governor’s Award than Andrew Young.

“Because I don’t do my show down there. I would be better. But he’s good too.

“I’ll tell you, I don’t really understand Ambassador Young’s Emmy campaign,” Colbert continued. “I mean, a lot of the honorable things he’s done have been off camera. Why bother to be good if not one is watching? That’s why I only help old ladies across the street where there are traffic cameras.”

Concluded Colbert in the video clip: “So, Ambassador Young, congratulations. Your life is an example to all of us. In that, we all now know what to do to win an Emmy. Become a pastor, a civil rights leader, a documentary producer, mayor, congressman, UN ambassador and, I’m proud to say, Stephen Colbert’s black friend. Congratulations, sir!”

You can see the entire video tribute here

We hear that Young was delighted by the Colbert’s greeting. The ambassador has guested twice on “The Colbert Report.” On his first appearance, Colbert revealed to viewers the two mens’ connection go back decades. Young once helped Colbert’s late father, a hospital administrator, settle a strike in South Carolina.

Andrew Young is a bigget and a racist. I have hated him ever since the comment he made about a year ago while on V-103, while talking about Maya Angelou’s upcoming 80′th birthday party. He somewhow got off the subject and began talking about black athletes. Young quoted “now ladies (speaking to blacks), you need to scoop these men up before all the white women get them”. That is a RACIST comment!! Just try to imagine Ted Turner or any other well known Atlanta white man, on a country station talking about the Braves or any other athletes, and he says “ladies you need to scoop these men up before all the black women get them”…. it would be Don Imus multiplied by one thousand, and Andrew Young would be right smack in the middle claiming he was a racist for saying it.

Young, you disappoint me as an Atlantan, and you are an absolute bigget. You care about nothing but promoting supremecy for the black culture. Do not do or say anything publically that you would be disappointed if role reversal took place and a white person said the same thing. Go find another convicted felon attempting to puchase MACHINE GUNS and SILENCERS (which are kind of a red flag that its not for personal or family protection by the way), and use his high profile sentencing as a platform to get your racist face in the media. Oh, and would you have done the same thing, for say, a white man accused of the same crime? You are a disgrace to the Atlanta people, and I hope you one day decide to move far far away from the State of Georgia and the southeast. You are no longer welcome here in my eyes.

Ashamed of Andrew Young, Andrew Young hates racists!!! That is why he has fought so hard against them over the years. What have you done in this regard.??? The way you sound, you may have been the one he was fighting against: Those who are on this earth who are “idol worshipers” who worship the color of thei skin more than God. Who believe that the color of their skin in this country is worth more than following the commandments of God. You need to “REPENT” and get a life in the name of “JESUS”: OUR LORD AND SAVIOR.

Obviously Ashamed of Andrew Young has no idea who Mr Young is and what background this man comes from. No need to elaborate on that because if this person does not know then thats a shame. Plus Mr Young is right. Too bad you have such a problem with the sentence the rapper got. From what we understood, both sides of the court agreed to the terms of the sentencing. If you had such a problem you should have went to the courthouse and protested. Learn to spell also.

I know he has fought long and hard against racism. But in his lifelong battle and civil rights demonstrations, he somewhere took the sorrow he felt for himself and turned it into anger against whites, therefore making him no better than the racists he used to fight against. I have undisclosed very close ties to Andrew Young and his operations, and know more about what goes on behind the scenes than the targeted demographic you two represent.

And can either one of you answer this simple question with a YES or a NO…… Was the comment he made on V-103 out of line, especially coming from the mouth of somebody who has dedicated his life to being in the spotlight, using a national megaphone to fight against happenings, completely paralleled to what he was saying. Adn would that be acceptable if roles were reversed?? ALL i want is a YES or a NO, not some justified reasing as to why he had the right to say it because of the hardships he has endoured throughout his long lifetime. Think about that, and try and convince me I or anybody else shouldn’t lose respect for the man.

Barry, could you PLEASE point out EXACTLY what i said in my original post that makes me a racist?? You are so typical of believing the only thing to a person is what thier personal PR reps make you believe. Once you hear the full story, you think the person attempting to expose him for what he really is is a racist?? This makes no sense to me. Thanks for taking the time to point this out.

No. I do not believe it was a racist remark. If you were familiar with the black community, you would understand that was a “sarcastic” remark to black women because, true to many, black men do become a commodity to any woman when they make big money. He was telling black women they have first “dibs” in being close to black men where they live in the black community. He was speaking on a black radio station, primarily to a black audience, sarcastically and jokingly making that statement. It was a generic openly, fun statement to black women. And if you understand black people and how we look at it, you would not have gotten so out of wack. It’s O.K.. I understand your misunderstanding. Now if a white person said this, on a white station, speaking to a white audience, not knowing the social environment, nor experience, and not empathetic to the condition and context of the statment being made, then I would have some reservations about the statement. However, knowing Andy, and he knowing our community, and the pains we have suffered through discrimination, I am more than confident he made this statement sarcastically and jokingly to his audience. You have to empathize with the statement my friend. Evidently, you have not walked in Andy’s nor any black persons shoes to get upset with his comment and call Mr. Young a “biggot”. He has not lynched anyone because of the color of their skin. NOr deprived somone of a job because of the color of their skin. Nor kept someone from moving in his neighborhood because of the color of their skin. Nor harmed anyone, in matter because of the color of their skin. The man hates racism just like me. That is why has fought so hard against it. WHAT HAVE YOU DONE IN THIS REGARD??? Answer that?

Fecil, he was calling Andrew Young black. Because he is.

You show me a man with a birth certificate from an African country and I’ll call him African American. Otherwise, you’re black.

I’m white, not European American.

Barry I think you are complete lie. Every time you ask why is it ok for a black person to do something and not a white, people like you instantly defend it as “you dont know the shoes they grew up in, blah blah blah”. You and I know DAMN WELL if a white man went on any radio station and even called somebody “black” as opposed to “african american” you would call for their head. I simply asked you not to justify why it was ok for him to do it, and you failed me. Nice try with the “i would have had the same reservation” comment. Racism is not defined as “white against black”. What Andrew Young said was racist.

Its exactly like asking the other day “If somebody came out with “W.E.T” (White Entertainment Television) would that be considered racist? And how would it be any different than B.E.T. (Black Entertainment Television) But i couldn’t get any type of straight answer, because it was all “that station has been out, it’s called FOX, ABC, CBS, etc.” I simply wanted to know “would it be racist” And since it obviously would be viewed as racist, the reality sets in that “well BET just may be wrong to”….then the attempted justifications take over. If i went on a radio station tomorrow morning announcing the upcoming “W.E.T.”, the phone lines full of blacks (sorry african americans) and would possibly overload and shut down the city’s entire power grid.

As for “what have i done in this regard”, I am sorry that I 100% focus my life on my friends and family, which do not include racism. Therefore no, I have not dedicated my life to go out fighting and attempting to change views of stubborn people like you who are unmoveable. I do however stay very up to date with my city’s current events and happenings, and I am not blind to truths, what is wrong or right, and absolute bigotry.

Racism is 1) believing or behaving as if one group of people is superior to another group of people based on race or 2) actions that indicate intolerance of a particular race. Therefore, acknowledging (and even valuing) differences in history, culture, and interests isn’t racism. My opinion is that most people have engaged in racist beliefs and thoughts at some point in their lives–even if they were unaware that they are doing so. Maybe acknowledging and accepting differences and owning up to our own shortcomings are first steps to being able to live together in peace.

Seriously?

Ashamed of Andy Young, I am not going to justify your “ignorance” in this matter. If you did not like my answer, then tough. I surely did not like your response in calling Andy Young a biggot. Yet, you still did not answer my question in “what have you done to fight racism as did Andy?” The only “bigot” I am seeing is you!!! Therefore, get a life, and “quit worshiping the color of your skin more than God.” You are and “idol worshiper”. And the bad thing about it is you don’t even know it. Therefore, I understand your ignorance in this matter. For you are truly not qualified to call anyone a bigot. To do that you have to look in the mirror first, and you will see that it is “YOU”.

May God Save Your Soul.

Also,Asshamed of Andy Young, we already have “white entertainment television (WET). It is on T.V. everyday. It is understood who owns and run it, and the type of shows and actors that will primarily be shown on it. That is exactly what spurred the creation of BET. Family shows, entertaiment, news, ect. relating to the blacks were not being shown on regular WET. Your complete ignorance and stupidity in this regards is so silly. Therefore, I now know were your head is coming from: YOU ARE A CONFIRMED BIGOT!!!
