Atlantans continue to clean up at BET Awards

Atlanta R&B singer Ne-Yo scored the Best Male R&B award Sunday night at the Shrine Auditorium. The singer clearly did not expect to win.

“Damn, damn,” Ne-Yo exclaimed. “I want to thank God. Period. Pointblank. I really, really, really did not expect this. I didn’t write a speech or nothing.”

Atlanta singer Keri Hilson continued the evening’s winning streak by scoring Best New Artist.

Looking gorgeous in a slinky dress adorned with blue and red stars, Hilson yelled: “Is Atlanta in the house?! I just feel like that little girl from Decatur, Georgia singing into her hairbrush. I did not expect to win this at all. God does reward the diligent.”

Even Atlanta film director Tyler Perry was humorously referenced in a spoof of a summer film shot by BET Awards host Jamie Foxx and actor/comedian Martin Lawrence. In the bit, Lawrence’s cross-dressing character initially looks a lot like Perry’s trademark Madea matriarch except that “she” is knocking over a bank with Foxx’s “Wanda” character.

The name of the fictitious flick: “Skank Robbers.”

Cracked Foxx after the clip: “Tyler Perry, you didn’t call me back!”

I tried to watch the awards show because of the tribute to MJ.But listening to the language and the baggy pants to the knees,I thought “Michael Jackson never dressed like that or spoke like that”.I felt ashamed for his father sitting through all that.I wondered if he thought the same.

Mamma Rose have some respect. You’re the one who sounds like a monster. Only God can judge him. If he committed any sin, I can only hope he sought forgiveness. MJ has never been convicted of any crime and I never seen any evidence of a cime so Im not going to judge him. No matter how hard people like you try to destroy what he represent, his star will shine forever.

Steve, I agree with you. I was very disappointed in how BET handle this last minute tribute. If they were not willing to put in the time and effort to give him a proper tribute, they should not have done it tonight. Rather, they should have postphone it for another recent time and fully dedicate a show to MJ.

I was really impressed with the show. I love seeing my people do it big. The tribute to MJ was awesome! Ne-Yo sang the heck out of Lady Of My Life. Michael Jackson lives on in my heart, my IPOD, and in my children (another generation touched by the great one!). Janet coming thru was very emotional and special. The O-Jays still got it! Tyrese, Johnny Gill, and Trey Songz were great! Good job BET!

I was hoping for something more respectful for MJ especially for his family’s sake. ARE PEOPLE HAVEN’T BEEN DOING IT BIG AT ALL!! It looks like a bunch on coonery to me as always for most of the programming on BET. We need to stop being a bunch of wild animals and learn how to carry ourselves with dignity and respect!

I have never heard of the word coonery, Kelly. But you have somewhat of a good point. Dignity and respect should be the name of the game.

Is it me; or did Jamie Foxx try calling Maxwell gay? The awards show has always been a joke. The reason many of the black celebrities attend, is because they feel obligated to support their own, when in fact they rather be sitting at the Grammy’s or AMA with a more classy group of people. It’s great that BET has its own awards show, but please insist on having the presenters work on perfecting their tele-prompting.

Black people didn’t want to claim Michael Jackson when he was alive, but now that he has died and there is a camera around to get some publicity Michael Jackson is a black man. Go figure. As for Michael Jackson, it can be said the great ones are taken from us way too soon, whether they are 8 or 100. He was a great artist, performer and a very charitable man as well. He will be missed. These clowns on BET tonight couldn’t hold Michael’s diamond studded glove.

I was appalled at the black communties behavior. All of ya jumping around a hootin and hollerin. No wonder Michael only wanted you money…and he took a ton of it. Jamie Foxx is a racist punk. I dont care if Michael was a gay and a child molester, NONE OF YA can hold a candle to Michael

Punks, all of ya.

all of u are just haters that is how we celebrate life and each other instead of doing what your community does tare them down dont like to celebrate what they done and accomplished in their life time but rather talk about all the bad things he is gone let him finally be at peace and we always claimed him no matter what we were not the ones to build him up and then when he needed turn your backs on him we loved michael before and after through and through our people learned how to instead of cryin and cutting off our hair and having nervous breakdowns to laugh at the stupidity of others now u cant hurt him anymore he is with the one who truly always had his back HA HA HA!!!!!!!!!!! rest michael joseph jackson

That s**t is funny as he*ll….I mean funnnnnnnnnnnny !
This material, considered entertainment in the black community is funnnnnnny !
It is on par with wrestling, the circus, the black church….etc.
The names,the outfits,the wardrobe…etc..
Talk about goofy !
Why is everybody fat ?
Tyra Banks,Alicia Keys….. ?
What about all the tattoos on the necks, biceps, legs of females ?
No wonder Michael Jackson was getting all whacked up with plastic surgery ?
No wonder he was bleaching his skin.
OMG ! Lol !!!!!!!!

The awards show did it’s best in such a short time. Leave the man alone. Only God can judge him,not you or me. Whatever he did or did not due that’s between him and God. Joe Jackson should have stayed home like it was previously stated. He talks about raising Michael’s children he did a lousy job raising his own children. They had no childhood.
