Jermaine Dupri responds to Buzz
Jermaine Dupri and Janet Jackson
In a pair of tweets responding to our request for comment, Atlanta producer Jermaine Dupri has indicated to Buzz that we shouldn’t be taking this week’s anonymously sourced National Enquirer story reporting that he’s split with pop icon and actress Janet Jackson too seriously.
“Who reads that anyway? Lol,” Dupri tweeted Wednesday.
Still, we’d love a statement from Dupri that wasn’t limited to 140-characters on Twitter (contact us day or night at buzz@ajc.com). Alas, the phone numbers we have for him are woefully ancient and the So So Def’s Web site automatically re-directs you to Dupri’s personal site these days.
Jackson is currently here shooting “Why Did I Get Married Too?” with Tyler Perry.
Added an irritated Dupri to us on Twitter: “I read y’all’s piece and the question I ask is, how has Janet’s career declined if the last movie she did was number 1 and they’re making part two?”
For the record, Mr. Dupri, it was the Associated Press and the Enquirer who characterized Miss Jackson’s current career trajectory.
Here at Buzz Central, we’re acutely aware of how well Tyler Perry films do at the box office. . .

Janet should have moved on to acting a long time ago and left the music stuff to the young girls. She has always been a good actress. Then she could just make music for “fun” and not to try to break any records like J-lo has done like Will Smith , Ice Cube etc

Yes, Perry’s films do well but “his stuff” is getting old, boring and becoming more unoriginal I’m afraid if he doesn’t pull some new tricks out of the hat that the popularity will fade, and thats sad because he is an intelligent and talented man.

Janet’s career has declined since she hooked up with Jermaine because she allowed him into her musical life which should have been kept seperate.His childish hip hop productions dont suit her.Jermaine if you love her encourage her to work with Jam and Lewis again.You havent hurt her career like Bobby hurt Whitney’s but it’s awful close..

I think Janet’s musical career would have been okay if she had of stayed in that “Velvet Rope” mode. She’s still sexy and sexy ballads would have done her proper justice. Still trying to the hip dance thing is beyond her now. She’s still got it, but I feel peeps (men that is, and heck a few women too) don’t want to see that from her anymore….been there done that. Leave that to the Ciara’s, and Rihanna’s-that’s there stage now. Janet would and could command just as much attention singing sexy slow jams, she don’t have to move as much now to be as sexy. Just stand there baby with that hot 40-something body and trust me you’ll be allllllright with me! If Tina Turner could do it back in the 80s, you definitely could do it…

Janet’s acting in “Why Did I get Married” was hooorrrriiiible!!! I never understood why she received awards for her role. If anyone should have gotten an award it should have been Tasha Smith!!! She is a phenomenal actress!!! Janet’s career has been on the bottom end of a slippery slope for a long time. Jermaine tried all that he could, now he needs to get back to the business of what he really does best….making music and launching new talent.

JD is a fading musical icon. His style is so 1987 and he hasn’t had a MAJOR hit in like 5 years. I used to dance to his music, but now I usually clean the house to his music on Sunday evenings. Watch next year JD will be on E-True Hollywood “Where are they now?”

She (JJ) got an award for that movie?? Well, she and Christian Bale would make a lovely pair in a crime drama movie. He can do all the gruffy, “muzzle-over-the-mouth sounding” parts, and she can do all the “I can only speak slightly above a whisper” parts.

The proof is in the pudding, Janet spoke and speaks so highly of JD, she said that he had the whip appeal and a record deal, if you are happy JD, enjoy happeness today and the talk of the haters later.

Rhythm Nation is the only CD I enjoy completely, and a few other hits here and there. I really don’t care for her voice because it’s very limited. And I’ve long since tired of her weight issues. When she’s fat, she hides. When she’s starved-look skinny, she’s half naked on any cover that will photo her. We all know that parts of her body, as with most of these female celebrities were bought. On un-airbrushed close-up shots of her face you can see the tiny lines from her cheek implants. And when she was younger she really didn’t have any curves . . . all bought.
The same goes for Lil Kim, she wants so bad to be blonde and blue-eyed until she ends up liking like an Albino (no disrespect to anyone who’s an Albino). Kim’s makeup never matches her skin tone which makes her look like a half-bred Geisha that’s been stung in the lips by bees.
It is so sad to see my sistas not embrace their given beauty, but instead chose to become altered to what they’ve come to believe beauty represents.
I think we’ve all become a sad nation to look up to such fakeness.

It is so funny that people spend so much time worrying about people who don’t know you exist. Janet is not a has been. The people who are making the comments are young. You will have to turn 40 one day and you will change your opinion. She is entitled to have a career and relationship like anyone else. Stop making your silly comments and worry about your own lives! I agree with a lot of you, especially about the changes women (black) make of themselves so that they can keep the offers coming in from Hollywood. These demands are not placed on the men. Yet the women stars sitll fade into the pass. So Sad.

I concur with ‘Stay in Your lane’, most people fail to realize that Janet(and I love her to def)is not close to being an average singer…entertainment is her game, so saying she can “stand in front of the mic,look sexy and sing ballads” isn’t at all possible, never has been. I said from the beginning that this relationship was all about her trying to get JD to do what he did for Mariah Carey, difference being, Mariah can SING! It’s hard to imagine any of todays vanity laced stars would marry for love…I said it 4 years ago and i’m sticking to my story, Janet was just after a hit record and it hasn’t panned out….but I ain’t mad at her and ESPECIALLY not JD, at least they didn’t go to the level of being married…..they can go their separate ways, IF that’s the case.

I’ve never been a huge fan of Janet, but I’ve liked all the songs that were played on the radio, I bought Discipline and fell in love with it, I listen to it on a daily basis. I would really love to hear her sing accapella though.
