Attorney on Usher-Tameka divorce: ‘My client loves her husband, children’

We’re going to theorize that Friday’s sneaky 4:59 p.m. Fulton County Superior Court divorce filing by lawyers for Atlanta pop star Usher Raymond IV didn’t catch the singer’s wife Tameka Foster Raymond totally by surprise.
For starters, Foster Raymond has hired Randall M. Kessler, one of the city’s most tenacious family law attorneys. Kessler’s specialty: representing the wives and mothers of the rich, famous and often deadbeat. For years, Buzz has chronicled Kessler’s diligent work for clients as he’s shaken loose elusive child support payments out of the piggy banks of rapper/actor T.I., former boxing heavyweight champ Evander Holyfield, former Milwaukee Bucks forward Jason Caffey and former Atlanta Falcon Andre Rison.
Two years ago when Caffey was doing his best to ignore $74,000 in back child support, we vividly recall Kessler telling us: “We’ve tried to keep it out of court, but with this much at stake, my client cannot keep waiting and hoping for him to do the right thing. We intend to ask the court to incarcerate Mr. Caffey until he pays what he owes.”

When we spoke with Kessler Monday, he was characteristically cordial but a lot less chatty, given that the ink isn’t yet dry on the divorce’s case number.
Said Kessler to Buzz: “All I can tell you is that my client loves her husband and she loves her children. She’s trying to keep this as private as possible.”
Kessler did confirm for us a status conference in the case is set for July 15 in front of Fulton County Superior Court Judge Bensonetta Tipton Lane.
In Fulton County, such a conference is routinely set 30 days after a petition is filed so a judge or his or her reps can familiarize themselves with the case. Both parties are required to attend.
Routinely, petitions can also be filed seeking temporary custody and/or child support.
The couple has two sons together, 1 1/2-year-old Usher Raymond V and 6-month-old Naviyd Ely Raymond. Usher and Tameka were married in August of 2007.
So far, Usher’s reps have not issued any statements on the matter. And the singer was remaining silent Monday on both his Twitter pages and his official website, Usherworld.com.
As expected, Kessler was not eager to gaze into any crystal balls for us Monday.
“Every single case is different,” he explained. “Some of these cases get settled and some end up in court. I’ll say this: Kids always make everything more important.”

It is so apparent that the marriage was doomed from the beginning. She already had children and he was obviously attractive to her with all his wealth. She had to feed the children from her previous marriage. It is unfornate that Usher decided to have children with her. This clearly appears to be driven by her desire to obtain financial freedom. I am sorry Usher is on the end requiring him to potentially write a check. The advice of Usher’s Mother is probably all he thinks about now.

I hate they are divorcing and I hope they can keep an amicable and civil relationship for their precious boys. It’s not story that it truly “takes a village” to raise children these days – so that they are confident, secure and loved.
However, I thought from early in his career, that Usher may be homosexual. Not that it matters to me one way or another how anyone chooses to live their lives (judge not, lest you be judged), but I do wonder if he was trying to keep up an image.
Either way, divorce is painful for all sides and I hope they can get through this as healthily as possible. Especially for their children…

What it really love on either side:Usher or Tamika. We really don’t know what has taken place. Why the surgery? Why another child if the marriage was already in trouble? We all know that we thought Chili was the one for Usher. Was marrying Tamika a way to stand up to his mother and get back at her for not accepting Chili, because she did not want her son to marry a woman with an already made family. So he goes out to marry a woman with a large already made family, and separates his business tides from mom. I’m a record producer and stated the fact back when the announcement of Usher’s engagement and forthcoming child that it wasn’t about Tameka. Everyone in the music industry knows that Usher is just another GAY man that wanted children. To be honest he could have accomplished having children with a less costly surrogate mother since this is all Tameka used her body for. Tameka knew this about Usher because he wasn’t feeling her from the start, but to loan her womb out for this pricey sum of money is what makes her the gold digger that she is. Usher got the children and Tameka got the golden coins. The only person that had any common sense in the entire matter was Usher’s mom, but hey she has 2 grand kids to spoil, so she benefited as well

May-December romanaces never last but are exciting, Usher being too young to understand what he was having and Tameka did, she knew knew itwasn’t going to last. That’s why she went to Brazil to have it tucked, sucked, coverer and smothered so she could continue to be appealing after the 2nd baby. My thing is this Mr.Kessler now don’t get me wrong I think she deserves child support for both children and I don’t even think it would be a argument about that. Put 10 million in escrow account for both. Tameka you can go to work on somebody else, some other movie star maybe shoot for Bow Wom this time. The last statement was ugly I know but true. She really should resolve this between her and Usher keep it quiet and guarantee she will get more than trying to go all public. I think when she got pregnant she knew what she was doing, but it wasn’t necessay if you believed in your relationship and yourself. I agree with Anthony’s comment. I wish both of them happiness and that they are able to work this out. Yes he is young but not that young. He knows what he is doing. Both have made a mistake and they both have agreed to move on. I am certain Usher will take care of his boys. Whatever Tameka wants, I am sure he will compromise with that as well.
As far as Chilli is concerned, I do not believe that will rekindle. They were a cute couple but I believe Chilli has moved on. If they get back together, then good for them. Obviously it was meant to be.

WOW!! The comments are too funny. On a serious note, rumor has it that there is a pre-nup. She didn’t want to sign it which delayed the first ceremony. She eventually signed it and they got married at Chateau Elan. Therefore, she is not going to be too deep in his pockets…especially for a marriage that didn’t last more than 24 months. Most pre-nups have time frames associated with the monies someone would receive if a divorce occurs. However, the kids are a different story. I have no doubt that Usher will take care of them but if he and his attorney are planning ahead, they should file for full custody. That way, she will have to pay child support. I am sure Momma Pat would prefer this method instead of dealing with visitation rights and having to interact with Tameka, etc. I hope Usher will listen to his Mom going forward when it comes to women. On another note, I really wish it would have worked out but only they know their situation.

It’s nice to have a mother or anyone to go to for advice or an opinion, but it doesn’t mean you have to do exactly what they say. Usher is 30 years old and should make up his own mind and I hope you guys that are saying mama knows best are capable of making decisions as well. You can not fault Usher for falling in love. The best lesson in life is experience. No one knows what is in Usher’s or Tameka’s heart but them. I don’t understand why you guys are so happy about another broken home in the black community. When guys talk to me they are looking at my outer beauty and could care less about what type of person I am on the inside. I’ve never been fan of Usher, but I gained respect for him when I saw his wife. He look beyond the cover. All I could say when I saw the news of the divorce was “I KNEW IT!!!!” I think Usher was just rebelling against all the authority figures around him–his momager, agent, producers, etc. Everybody was telling him this chick was not good for him, but I agree with the earlier post that he was attracted to her as a confidant. She definitely was not a soulmate, but a very divisive, manipulative 49er. So sad for those two boys who are saddled with a mother who birthed them for their monetary value, and a father too shortsighted to see Tameka for what she so obviously is. And another thing: Poo on Essence magazine for running that public relations article liberally quoting Patti LaBelle on what a great person Tameka Foster is. The article insulted every reader’s intelligence with its obvious spin, and Patti looks like a fool for being so publicly snookered by this con artist. Like they say, there’s a sucker born every day!

The real winner here is Tomeka’s ex husband and his new fiance. I saw them last week and they looked very happy together. He seems to be a very respectable man and everytime I’ve seen him – he’s with his boys being a great dad. And his fiance, as cute as a button, very sweet and sincere.

I feel sorry for Usher. I don’t know why he didn’t take a step back and look at what he was getting into. Why would he be attracted to a married woman with so much baggage. She has children by Holyfield, Bison, and who knows how many others. There is so much birth control methods out there for women to use, why wouldn’t he insist on her using it, or him, until they found out about each other. In the case of him being gay, we in the midwest have not heard those rumors, and really don’t believe them. You should have listened to your mother, because they have a sixth sense, and know who is good for you and who isn’t.

Usher CHOSE to marry a very mature and experienced woman. He will have to live with the consequences of making that decision. I pray that Usher’s and Tameka’s children will be taken care of and will not get caught in the middle of an ugly battle.Additionally, I pray that both parties will do the right thing or otherwise they will pay the consequences for making more bad choices. As for as Usher’s mom is concerned, I am sure she still loves her son because LOVING parents want what’s best for their children and support through thick and thin.

Oh come on people! LETS KEEP IT REAL, WHAT USHER DID WAS THE TYPICAL AMERICAN MOVE, WHICH WAS 1.) Tamika was already pregnant before he married, to preserved his good boy image and not be label a “bad person”, he married her, he was never “in love with her”. This is the same slick move BRANDY the singer did, she became pregnant and wasn’t married, she wanted to preserve her “GOOD GIRL” IMAGE, SO SHE LIED AND SAID SHE WAS MARRIED, SO NO ONE WOULD SAY SHE HAD “KIDS OUT OF WEDLOCK”. Three things people do in America and that is 1.) get a female pregnant and married her while she pregnant to cover up both people’s carelessness and dodge the criticism of people saying “you had a baby out of wedlock”, 2.) Lie and say that he ors he is your fiance, because he or she wants people to believe that the baby they already have was planned and wasn’t some random “knockup”, and that he or she loves each other and going to get married soon, and 3.) call each other husband and wife because he or she has been together for a long time, such as a common law marriage. I understand people want to portray an image, especially if they are in hollywood spotlight, however, I have more respect for a man , who get a woman pregnant and take care of the kid(s), instead falsely portraying like you are in love with that individual or feel pressured that you have to marry someone because of a careless choice you make.
