Fay Gold ran a private gallery in Buckhead for nearly three decades before it closed in April, but her impact on the larger visual arts community in Atlanta is the reason she’s being feted Wednesday night at the Contemporary Art Center.
“When we heard that Fay was closing her gallery after almost 30 years, we thought that it would be a great time to recognize her contribution to the Atlanta art scene,” said Contemporary director Stuart Horodner, who’s co-chairing the private event for 200. “Through exhibitions, collection building, career guidance, and great enthusiasm for contemporary art, Fay has been a champion of numerous local artists, as well as a key player in expanding awareness and access to national artists of consequence. Cindy Sherman, Andres Serrano, Robert Mapplethorpe, and Jean-Michel Basquiat — each had their first exposure to audiences in this city at Fay’s gallery.”
The party will include a short retrospective video and comments by developer, collector and arts supporter John Wieland, art critic Felicia Feaster, High Museum of Art curator Julian Cox and Gold herself.
The invitation was printed, fittingly, on gold stock.
