Fonda, Sir Elton Up for 2009 Tony Nominations

Jane Fonda was up early in New York Tuesday and tweeting with the birds.

And why not?

The two-time Oscar winner and Emmy winner may soon have to clear more space on her Poncey-Highland mantel for a Tony Award. Fonda’s starring role in Broadway’s “33 Variations” netted her a Lead Actress Tony nomination early Tuesday. The play also snagged four other Tony noms.

As Fonda herself tweeted on Twitter: ” ‘33 Variations’ has five Tony nominations!!!! The play [playwright] Moses Kaufman, me, [featured actor] Zach Grenier, the sets and the lighting. I’m sooo happy.”

And Fonda may just have a fellow Atlantan across the aisle from her when the Tonys are handed out June 7. Sir Elton John’s “Billy Elliot” musical netted a whopping 15 nominations, including Best Musical, Best Score and Best Orchestrations.

Woodward Academy grad Hunter Bell, meanwhile, was nominated for Best Book for his inventively titled “[Title of Show].

Michele Ozumba, the CEO of Fonda’s Georgia Campaign for Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention was excited for Fonda.

“We’re thrilled for her,” Ozumba told Buzz. “But I wasn’t surprised. I’ve seen the play. Jane is just so present and intuitive in the role. It’s an extremely challenging role and Jane just inhabits this woman.”

But Fonda and Ozumba weren’t through with their breaking news for the day. Ozumba gave Buzz all the details on G-CAPP’s brand-new G-Power initiative that will be officially launched Wednesday.

Check back at Buzz Central later today for all the details.

Jane Fonda should not get any awards. after being a trader to our country, when she went to north Viet Nam, and took pitures with the enemy. She should never have been allowed back in this country ever!!!

Cliff Wright – get over yourself. I’ll bet you’ve got a bundleful of youthful indescretions you’d like to forget about. Jane Fonda has done more for the state of GA in the handful of years she’s lived here that you’ll most likely do in your lifetime. And, she’s a phenominally fantastic actress, and deserves every single award she’s ever won.

And, learn the language, I’m so sure you (stupidly) meant to say “traitor”. Of course, all the “traders” in the stock market who helped this current financial disaster might be considered “traitors” to the country.

Jane Fonda is a traitor, period. Being a traitor against the young men from Georgia who fought in Vietnam did not benefit this state or the other 49. She should have been executed for treason. If you are a traitor when you are 20, you are still a traitor at 65. She is the least talented in her family, Henry and Peter are better. Hit the road cowo, take your traitor and vapid lib talking points with you.

Hey reality & cowo – I served in Vietnam & I have no problem with Jane Fonda. She’s no a traitor & your both idiots. I would never have wanted either of you serving next to me, you have no idea what a traitor is & to say something as stupid & hateful as she should be executed just shows how small minded you really are. Get out of the past & move on.
