“General Hospital” actress Carolyn Hennesy took some time away from the bullet-riddled, drama-plagued Port Charles last week to introduce Atlantans to her latest creation, Pandora Atheneus Andromaeche.
“Pandy” is the spunky Greek mythology-based, 13-year-old heroine of Hennesy’s new “Pandora” series of young adult novels. The third in the series, “Pandora Gets Lazy,” (Bloomsbury, $14.99), hit stores last week.
Over tea, the author-actress explained the commonalities between Pandy and her “G.H.” mob lawyer Diane Miller, a role she’s helped to create over two years and 200 episodes of the ABC daytime drama.
“There’s spark, sass and smarts,” Hennesy explained laughing. “Diane possesses some of my personality. But Pandora is me. Just ask my husband. He’ll tell you that at any given moment, I’m a 13-year-old! But Pandora isn’t yet aware of her own fabulousness yet.”
During signings at the Barnes & Noble in Alpharetta and visits with school kids, Hennesy got to meet the rabid readers who could turn her into the next J.K. Rowling.
“It’s all about girl power,” explains Hennesy. “The girls relate to the girls in the ‘Pandora’ series and that’s so gratifying to me. You’re at that age when the weight of the world is on your shoulders and no one understands you.”
Hennesy is thrilled that discerning boys are also reading the “Pandora” series.
Her “G.H.” castmate Laura Wright (who portrays spitfire Carly Corinthos Jacks) has turned her children on to Hennesy’s books as well.
And while the hilarious Diane Miller is currently entangled in most of the soap’s storylines, astonishingly, Hennesy says the role evolved from what was originally a two-day gig.
“Honestly, it helped that I didn’t watch the show,” Hennesy says. “If I had known how popular the [mob boss] Sonny Corinthos character was or how wildly popular ["G.H." actor] Maurice Benard is, I would have been too tongue-tied. Maurice and I just had chemistry immediately. The writers saw that spark and started writing for it.”
So when did Henessy realize she had lucked into one of the best jobs in daytime?
“The day we shot a scene and Maurice was wearing a tuxedo and he flashed those dimples. I remember thinking, ‘Oh, I get it now!’ ”

Food Network host Guy Fieri dining at the new Marietta Fish Market on Canton Road. we hear that Fieri’s visit did not go undetected. He happily posed for photos with dozens of diners, signed T-shirts and hats for some and even wished a few kids a happy birthday. He also talked his way into the kitchen for a quick tour.
Fieri and his six friends enjoyed a three-pound steamed lobster, Alaskan king crab legs, shrimp and scallops in a light red sauce, green olives and feta cheese plus the Marietta Fish Market’s Maryland lump crab cakes, oysters Rockefeller, seafood bisque and the seafood paella. Fieri’s fave, however? The eatery’s signature grilled whole red snapper drizzled with extra virgin olive oil and fresh lemon juice and served on Greek-style roasted potatoes and sautéed spinach.
