A Tennessee woman who police say crashed into a church and stabbed her husband claims she was following the instructions of both God and the devil, reports WJHL-TV.

Church Hill, Tenn., police say at about 10 a.m. Sunday Stephanie Hamman crashed her car through the front doors of Providence Church and called her husband, Steven, who lives with her in apartment across the street from the church.

When Steven arrived he found his wife lying in front of the altar with a large kitchen knife. She arose, said “the devil is in me” and stabbed him in the chest, he said.

Steven “pulled the knife from his chest” and returned to his apartment and waited for an ambulance.

He will live.

Stephanie, 23, was arrested 20 minutes later at a medical center and told police God had told her to not “smoke weed” day and night, but just at night to relax.

God also told her to drive her car through the church doors, but the devil told her to take a knife.

As she waited for her husband in the church, she said she “prayed” she wouldn’t have to use the knife on her husband, but she was mad at him for “worshipping the NASCAR race at Bristol,” which was surprisingly won by driver Carl Edwards.

Stephanie, who is charged with attempted murder, told police she likes to smoke a lot of marijuana.

“Sometimes when I do [smoke a lot of marijuana], I start seeing things that others don’t. Isn’t God good? He told me this would happen, and just look, I am okay,” said Stephanie Hamman.

Providence Church Pastor Joel Trigg said he didn’t know what to think about all of this.

Organic Brain Syndrome brought on with “the help” of cannabis.

An appreciable proportion of cannabis users report short-lived adverse effects, including psychotic states following heavy consumption, and regular users are at risk of dependence. People with major mental illnesses such as schizophrenia are especially vulnerable in that cannabis generally provokes relapse and aggravates existing symptoms.

All the more proof the THC percentage in weed has skyrocketed since my college days.

Oh get real. This girl is certifiable, yet the extremists will use it to “prove” that marijuana is dangerous. I would bet $50 the weed had nothing to do with this girl’s mental state or actions. She’s just a regular nut job.

Honey, you need to watch your dosages on your medical marijuana.

You know, and quit stabbing people.

Why does everyone keep blaming it on marijuana? Clearly god made her do it. And the devil.

BTW: I wasn’t blaming it on the weed and the fact is THC is through the roof compared to 20 years ago.

I’m not an Edwards fan but why was it surprising that he won the race??

Maude – I took the “surprise” bit from another headline … it seems Edwards has not won in a while and more famous drivers had been leading the race until near the end.

This situation was so serious that I almost wouldn’t have sex with her again. Pass the roach, sweetheart. That’s better.

Well George, guess you don’t follow NASCAR too closely. Carl Edwards is one of the most popular, well known and liked NASCAR drivers. He also won at least one race last year.

@ @@: Hey genius, what other meds should be off limits for incredibly insane individuals, like this poor woman who is likely schizophrenic? I’d say pretty much every drug except those prescribed by a doctor. I guess you think oxycontin or alcohol would be fine for her to abuse, since those are legal. Also, Professor, in case you aren’t aware, EVERY drug has side effects, not just marijuana.

I do like the comment by Rip Snorter. Can’t even imagine what it must be like living in CO now. If I did, I wouldn’t get on the roads on the weekends for no amount of money. “Double-drunks” on alcohol and pot !

She may very well be mentally ill, but you’d be better the marijuana contributed to her psychotic behavior. I’ve been a psych nurse for a while and I see this situation on a regular basis. A person (please don’t say I implied “all persons”) with a mental illness might be able to have a somewhat normal life with the use of psychotherapy and the appropriate prescription medicine. However, add THC and you have a vitrual disaster.

Let me get this right. So she has the devil and god giving her instructions. I had no idea they worked together. All this time I thought they worked separate. My goodness I feel like I have been mis informed.
Ok, did God tell her which weed to choose? Some will give you just a headache. I bet she stabbed her husband because he smoked all her stash!

While the article does a great job of stressing the drama of the whole thing (makes it more palatable I guess), truth of the matter this chick is a THUG HOODRAT.

Just another reason to avoid religion. The worlds number one problem? Too many religious nut bags running around. If you could remove religion from the human species it would be a safer world to live in.
