A trucker who wore ‘vampire’ teeth kept women captive as sex slaves for months at a time as he traveled the country, the Associated Press reports.
Timothy Jay Vafeades, 54, is charged with kidnapping, transportation for illegal sexual activity, and possession of child pornography, and could be sentenced to life in prison if convicted.
Vafeades was arrested at a Minnesota weigh station after officials there noticed his passenger — Vafeades’ 19-year-old cousin from Florida — had bruises on her arm and a restraining order had been issued to keep the trucker away from her.
In an arrest warrant, the woman said she was kidnapped by Vafeades a week after she began working for him on his truck, the “Twilight Express,” which may be named for the popular series of vampire books and movies.
She told investigators she tried to leave Vafeades but he strangled her until she passed out, beat her and forced her to have sex at least 100 times over a period of six months.
She also told investigators he chipped down her teeth and had her wear a fake set, and he wore a false set that looked like vampire fangs.
A second woman has come forward to say she was held captive in a similar fashion for three months in 2012. The woman said she met Vafeades at a truck stop and agreed to have dinner with him but he used threats and violence to force her to have sex, disguise her identity and marry him. He would refer to her as his sex slave, the woman said.
Vafeades will be transferred from Minnesota to Utah, his home state, to face federal charges.
