A white, conservative Texas politician tired of “all the shenanigans” won an election in a majority-black district by pretending to be black, according to news reports.
Houston television station KHOU interviewed Dave Wilson about his unorthodox strategy.
“Nobody was more shocked than me,” said Wilson, who admitted his campaign literature features pictures of black “supporters” he simply lifted from the Internet.
“Every time a politician talks, he’s out there deceiving voters,” said Wilson, a “gleeful political troublemaker” and one-time fringe candidate for Houston mayor.
Wilson was elected to the Houston Community College System board by the narrowest of margins — 26 votes.
