You never know what you will learn when you visit the library. An assistant librarian in New Mexico claims she’s learned quite a bit.
In a lawsuit, Jamie Kurz alleges she was fired from her job in Estancia, N.M., after she told the mayor her boss was having sex in the library’s children’s section.
Kurz’s lawyer told KRQE reporters his client showed up early to work one Friday in August and saw two vehicles in the parking lot. One belonged to the head librarian and the other was a city maintenance truck.
Once inside, Kurz said she heard “unusual noises” and found her boss and a city maintenance worker having sex on the floor.
The maintenance man asked Kurz to not say anything because he and the head librarian are both married to people they do not have sex with in the library.
Kurz told the city’s library director and mayor. Then the mayor fired both Kurz and the library director.
According to a letter from Mayor Sylvia Chavez, Kurz was fired for not turning over her key to the library.
Kurz’s attorney says the head librarian and maintenance worker still have their jobs because they are “close” to the mayor.
The attorney let the KRQE News 13 news crew listen to audio secretly recorded by Kurz. In it, the head librarian does not admit to having sex in the library, but allegedly does tell Kurz “if she can’t handle the situation, she should find another job.”
The library’s website still lists Kurz as assistant librarian. The head librarian is listed as “Angela Creamer.”
The website does not make mention of the children’s section being available for rent by the hour.
