Report: Blackface ‘Trayvon’ costume-wearer a felon

Racism isn’t funny, but idiots keep trying.

The latest proof comes from Florida, where a convicted felon smeared black paint on his face in an attempt to resemble someone without a criminal record, Trayvon Martin.

As most of you know, Martin was killed in a fight with serial-speeder George Zimmerman, who was found not guilty in July. Many who disagree with that verdict would agree that going to a Halloween party in blackface to look like someone who was shot to death is a bad idea.

The photo of the insensitive partygoers has been making the rounds on social media, and some have provided “youth” as an excuse for dumb.

I have no problem with young people doing stupid things. I did a few dumb things myself, but people called me on it.

The Smoking Gun website is calling out these people and says the man dressed as Trayvon is not that young, but he is a felon.

“William Filene, 25, dressed up as Martin, covering his face in black paint and donning a gray sweatshirt with a single bullet hole surrounded by fake blood. Filene, who also lives in Cape Coral, was arrested in June for felony auto theft. His rap sheet also included collars for loitering/prowling and failing to register an automobile,” writes The Smoking Gun. “In a plea deal, Filene copped to the auto theft charge during an August hearing in Lee County Circuit Court. He was sentenced to 18 months probation, and now has his own page on the Florida Department of Corrections web site.”

The woman in the photo posted it to her Facebook page but pulled it after her friends pointed out the obvious. She is identified as Caitlin Cimeno of Martha’s Vineyard. Her costume, which appears to be that of a porky leprechaun, may enrage the Irish.

The Smoking Gun alleges she has used racial slurs in the past on Facebook:

“In August, Cimeno posted a photo of an African American girl wearing a T-shirt reading ‘Black Girls Rock.’ In her accompanying caption, Cimeno wrote, ‘First of all, sorry Hun but mommy lied to you & secondly if I was wearing a shirt that said something like the truth ‘white girls rock’ I would be stared at and called a racist cracker.’”

The other man in the photo is Greg Cimeno, who may be the brother of Caitlin. He’s also from Cape Coral and only 22, so you might think he should be given a pass. Unfortunately, he tried to defend the alleged hilariousness of the photo when Caitlin’s friends suggested she yank it.

“Not too funny[?] It’s [bleeping] hilarious!!!” he wrote on Facebook before Caitlin deactivated the page.

Sadly, it’s not just rednecks that think racism is funny. Over the weekend, the fashion world celebrated Halloween by dressing up as slaves in chains. Many wore blackface or makeup to make their skin appear darker. FashionBombDaily.com, which I check out frequently for new ideas in Hawaiian shirts, has photos from a ‘Disco Africa’ party that I think occurred in Italy.

And celebs think it is funny too. Actress Julianne Hough, 25, has apologized for wearing blackface to a Halloween party.

If you are an adult racist and feel the need to wear a costume to a party, just wear a sheet like your ancestors and claim you are a ghost.

Scuba Steve: Why? So you can prove how big and tough you are? Big whoop! Try being really big and tough; man up and move on.

Mr. Cimeno as a citizen of our great country, you are allowed by the Constitution the right of freedom of speech and freedom of expression. I wholeheartedly support your right to be insensitive, callous, and have poor taste

Nonetheless, I wonder what type of reaction You and Mr. Filene would have received had you gone as victims or the alleged perpetrators of the Boston Marathon bombings?

I further wonder why you feel that the tragic death of a teenage boy deserves to be mocked in such a nonchalant manner?

Yet as angry as this vile picture makes me, I feel sad for you young men.

I feel sad that you don’t recognize that you have reopened a barely bandaged wound in the racial dialogue of this country.

I feel sad that you embraced a dehumanizing stereotype long considered by black people to be horribly offensive.

But most of all I feel sorry that at the moment you decided to go down this road and rub salt in the wound of two people that have lost their son. Two people who have shown nothing but decency and class during the most nightmarish of circumstances.

This has nothing to do with liberal or conservative, left or right, red state or blue state. It’s just simple humanity—simple decency. God bless you and God bless the United States of America.

Resno — nope so I can rid the world of Trisha and her offspring. Not trying to prove a point, trying to perform a public service. Thanks for your input though.

I like how Mathis is quick to defend himself when he calls out the people wearing blackface; yet he’s silent on the fact that in the same breath, he insults fat people. Hypocrite.

Diddler — standing and posing for this picture, then posting it under the caption “Happy Halloween from George & Trayvon” is a hell of a statement, don’t ya think?

Any time someone puts on blackface makeup, it’s offensive. Everyone knows it. These folks were stupid, idiotic kids trying to be funny. What’s really crazy is that this incident became national news. Give me a break here. Let’s call it idiotic behavior from three total morons and move on. No one was hurt, feathers may have been ruffled, but that’s about it. Just shake your head and chalk it up as some stupid kids that are completely insensitive, shall we?

OK, that’s all the racism I can take for today. I am closing comments. Some of you need help and I hope you can get it elsewhere.
