$880,000 study to figure out ‘why males exist’

What the world needs now is love sweet snail love studies, according to Burt Bacharach and a $880,000 federal grant.

An article on CNSNews.com details the expenditure by The National Science Foundation, which will allegedly help a female scientist at the University of Iowa figure out “why males exist.”

The study looks at the New Zealand mud snail, which, like my former college roommate, can have sex with or without a partner.

Sex with other sentient creatures is “more costly” than asexual reproduction, “yet nearly all organisms reproduce sexually,” scientist Maurine Neiman declares. “Why is sexual reproduction so common despite its costs?”

I’m no scientist, but I’m guessing it helps divorce attorneys pay their bills.

Alas, answering the question is “more complicated that is appears,” the scientists write.

“Because only females can directly produce offspring, the production of sons by sexual females creates a two-fold ‘cost of males’ that should culminate in the rapid elimination of sex,” Neiman notes.

“Elimination of sex?” Now you’ve got my attention. Throw money at this thing!

The study, first funded in 2011, will be extended to 2015. So far, the grant has paid out $502,357, reports CNS.

Sexual reproduction creates diversity through the intermixing of two DNA sequences (genomes) to create offspring rather than one as would happen with asexual reproduction. I hesitate to even call this a basic genetic principle, it is so obvious. Good job congress, way to throw away some more money.

To those belittling the study, I strongly advise you all to educate yourselves on what is actually being studied before making comments that make your ignorance painfully obvious. The study is not looking at “why males exist,” that’s just a simpleton phrase used in an attempt to simplify the biological issues in question to a level that the average AJC reader (read: moron) can understand.

I don’t think Mr. Mathis has read any of the scientific literature related to his article, or even the grant that he’s writing about. An unanswered question in evolutionary biology is why sexual reproducing organisms aren’t overrun by asexually reproducing ones. As Professor Nieman’s husband, I can say that this study relates to ecology, not human sexuality.

The NSF grant referred to here pays for sequencing the genome of the snail, which is an invasive species worldwide. The snail and is used by water treatment plants to detect estrogen contamination of the water supply. For both reasons, it is important to understand the snail’s genetics and reproduction. The researchers were given a separate award at the state level because their research has the potential to help us understand Down syndrome and other human diseases of aneuploidy, because the snail has variation in genome size. Understanding the species has important benefits to humans.

At CNSNews, one commenter describes the $880,000 as being close to a trillion dollars. Another commenter says that the NSF evaluators ought to be put to death for stupidity. Shame, shame, shame. This is ignorance and hatred, front and center. Our family is Jewish; I wonder if present company would make hay from that fodder as well.

On the other hand, CNS reporter Matt Cover did write an accurate story and contact the researchers to check his facts. Bravo to good journalism. Whether basic science should be federally funded is a valid an important discussion. At $0.003 per American spread across four years, the taxpayer’s investment in this research is a better deal in my book than $2,600+ per American for Bush’s war in Iraq, or the $2,250 per American for Bush’s bank bailout TARP.

Perhaps this was yet another grant funded with “stimulus” money. You remember those…the ones that were intended to put taxpayers to work in order to give them spending money so they would “stimulate” the economy.

Thank you for more clarification Bennett, now it makes a little more sense, I still stand by my point that schools are being closed. If not for the fact that schools being closed I could support this grant, however if we dont have funding to teach children at the lowest level (elementary school) there wont be enough adults to maintain these types of studies. The more knowledgeable the human race is as a whole the better off the world will be, closing schools and cutting teaching jobs is the bigger problem.

All Life, like Existence itself, is a miracle from the Creator, Whom all wishing to be true Americans ought to know is Our Holy Sovereign by American Exceptionalism’s Creed enshrined on The Great Seal of the Covenant between the sovereign individuals which comprise the People (”E Pluribus Unum”), and the Creator of the universe, G-d Almighty (”Annuit Coeptis”), here in the prophesied Zion (”perfection” in Hebrew), “into which all nations flow,” “founded by Gentiles,” “ruled only by Truth and Justice,” (”Novus Ordo Seclorum”).

“E Pluribus Unum” could not be more obvious: the People sovereign. One serves “the many” and is a whig, of G-d, or one serves “the few” and is a tory and a fascist in service to Satan.

Ordered only by Truth, Justice, Reason and Honor, “Novus Ordo Seclorum” is the cosmic, divine juxtaposed from the feudal, satanic Old Sectarian Order (of king and pope) we escaped, now rebadged as Vatican banker Rockefellers’ and Rothschilds’ “UN Agenda 21″ New World Order whose Fifth Column pathocracy has so far gotten away with assassinating Meriwether Lewis, Lincoln, JFK, MLK and Pat Tillman, the Fed Scam, finance of Hitler, Waco, OKC, 9/11, and the mass shootings hoaxes by which they intend to disarm and enslave the People.

Those who reject prophecy given only by the perfect, eternal, infinite, living, present, ineffable, invisible, holy, righteous, and unique Deity to Native Americans, Asians, Europeans, and Hebrews, all consistent with America’s Founding, reject the Creator of the universe – the central Element in America’s foundational Smithian Capitalism denoted by “Annuit Coeptis” – divine Providence blesses our righteous endeavors.

By the Creed is the Creator known by Its Creatures.

Male and female is the biological miracle by which Holy Matrimony can be achieved in the lives of those made in Its “image,” the consciousness through which all Creation was effected from the Beginning, which “an engine for enslaving mankind” “the real Anti-Christ” which has institutionalized child molestation, rape, false war and christ killing (Viz. murder by impalement of “tens of thousands” effected by Rome’s Talmudic Khazar cult – from Vlad the Impaler’s ancestors to his scion, the homosexual psychopath and committer of 9/11, George W. Bush, cheated into office by only the witting Roman Catholics on the Supreme Court – “tipped” by Rome with the takeover of Judaism (only 2% of “Jews” are blood kin to The Bible’s Hebrews, as are most of the Palestinians who “switched their letters” to Rome in fear of crucifixion/impalement for denying Caesar was the Creator of the universe) and with anti-biblical False Zion’s “State of Israel,” and is yet attempting to “overthrow” G-d by expunging the memory or knowledge of the Creator, America’s Sovereign, from the minds of all Humanity, evidence the ludicrous project financed by the perverts, Talmuds, papists, and “foxes without tails” whom David Koresh warned had taken over Our Nation’s Capital right before the Opus Dei-led Roman Catholic FBI molested altarboys immolated the innocent Blacks and Whites in Texas.

Fools and their money are soon parted. Fools and their freedom, liberty, sovereignty, and lives get parted too, when the miracle of Amazing Grace is forgotten and despised.

Bennett’s comment should be added to the body of this study. This kind of reporting does a serious disservice to our country, because it distorts the basic scientific research that is being done across the country. Private companies do not fund basic research, because it isn’t profitable – it won’t lead to something they can market in the near term. The federal government has long funded this basic research that not only helps us understand the world better (a worthwhile goal by itself to me), but also leads to tomorrow’s “miracle” products. NSF funding has been DROPPING by the way, when we ought to be investing in our future. Something like 20% of grant applications used to be approved; now limited funding has lowered that amount to 5-6%. This funding goes directly into the economy (yes, it is stimulus). In other words, it’s good for the economy now (at a time when we need more government spending), and it’s great for the society later as we reap the dividends of the research.

But heck, Neal Boortz and Rush Limbaugh say we spend too much money, it must be true.

So the researcher’s husband admits he was raised being taught those not born of Judaism-usurping Khazar “lineage” are “sub-human animals,” “goyim,” “a mindless herd of cattle,” to be “lied to, cheated, robbed, killed and enslaved with impunity,” as any visitor can hear during rabbinical instruction on any given Friday evening or Saturday morning service at any synagogue around Atlanta.

Looks as if he’s $880,000 toward proving out as a conformed Talmud. lol Start packing tory, the natives are getting restless. The prophecy is fulfilled.

N.B. We never landed on the moon. Like the mass shootings lately, the NASA “moon landing” was also a hoax for we “stupid goyim.” Stanley Kubrick’s widow has made public his correspondence, and legitimate scientists – not sucking of we “stupid goyim” American taxpayers – have absolutely and conclusively debunked Kubrick’s movie productions. Nixon, with the Bushes, was a Rockefeller/Rothschild agent, and faked the moon landings as a distraction after he and GHW Bush oversaw the Roman Catholic, Knight of Malta-led CIA’s assassination of JFK to restore the Fed and send us to die shedding innocent blood attempting to maintain Rome’s slave aristocracy in Indochina.

This grant was not a stimulus grant. It was funded under NSF biology research. I am grateful for Tag’s comment that we have to prioritize funding, and Bumper’s comment that suggests a trade off between funding basic science research and funding air traffic control.

It’s a false trade off, though. We spend most of our income tax on “Defense.” Military personnel alone is $150 billion. Our citizens who serve our country ought to have TRIPLE that pay for risking life and limb and separating from their family. But maybe such a large service force could be happier and safer working in schools, on bridges, and in air traffic towers. We spend WAY more on military equipment than we do on military salaries. A single Tomahawk missile costs about the same as all four years of this NSF research. The United States has 3,500 Tomahawks in inventory and orders more every year.

Our military budget, sacred lives, and honor, are spent in service to Satan’s lies, abominations and treasons committed by the “professor’s” and Bennett Brown’s “mishpochas” of anti-biblical, anti-prophecy False Zion. Their stated, instructed, conformed goal it “to cheat, rob, lie to, enslave, or kill” we “goyim” with impunity, and over a hundred Mossad mechanics proved it on 9/11 arrested with explosives near their Rothschild-sovereigns’ partners Rockefellers’ asbestos abatement project: their controlled demolition of the World Trade Center and the lives of thousands of innocent “goyim.”

Where has spending money on science gotten this country in the past? One answer is the moon. I find it almost laughable that there is a science/anti-science fight going on in this country.

As to the federal funding being spent on this project taking away from public schools…that’s not how it works. This is federal money and schools fall under the states. Federal money has always been used for basic science research (mostly in our liberal universities research programs).

Why throw money at some science as obscure as biology? Hmmm…maybe better understanding of organisms in general, prolonging life and curing diseases. Pick your poison…then drink it…then hope that science has found a cure.

Why is the AJC reporting this useless tidbit? Number 1, $800k is a microscopic amount compared to the overall federal budget. Number 2, it’s called a budget because money gets allocated for different kinds of purposes.

Third, didn’t the city of Atlanta just give a cool $200k to Arthur Blank, who sits on the board of Cox, the parent company of the AJC?

Why indeed…

Bravo Bennett for your championship of science and your wife’s work. My husband is a scientist at Emory University. He studies muscle nerve cells in rats and mice. You’re going about this all wrong. No matter what you are studying, why water runs down hill, why is there air, whatever, just mention that it will allow the military a means to more effectively bomb the bejesus out of brown people. There will be truck at your front door the next day, ready to shovel enough money to fill your living room, floor to ceiling, with hundred dollar bills. Also, when dealing with the right wing, you never mention that is for ’science.’ Instead say that a burning bush in your back yard told you to do it, or that the beast with seven heads, unwrapped seven seals, on the seventh day at the seventh hour, etc etc. They don’t understand science, but they really magic beings.
