A property manager, whose video of his “tasing” a woman in downtown Atlanta sent a jolt through the internet, may soon receive thousands of dollars from an online fundraising effort.
The fund for Darrien Long, a “kick [bleep] mall cop,” was up to $23,000 Tuesday morning on Crowdtilt.com.
Long told WSB-TV he believes his Taser and chest-mounted video camera are the best tools he has to maintain order at Metro Mall, a collection of small businesses just south of Underground Atlanta on Peachtree Street. He tells WSB he works to “clean up the neighborhood” so more businesses will move into the area.
The money being raised since Saturday will allegedly go directly to Long so he can buy “better and more gear.”
Residents of the area told WSB’s Amy Napier Viteri the rowdy behavior seen on the video is typical, and thinks it’s a shame it happens so close to the state Capitol, the county courthouse and City Hall.
Long’s video, shot in May, began getting attention after it was published last week on YouTube. The video shows Long confronting two women and asking them to leave the mall. The women become combative, one woman spits on him and another hits him in the head, before he uses a Taser. The women were later charged with disorderly conduct. The tasered woman was also charged with criminal trespass and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
The video is on YouTube, but be warned, the language, including that by small children, is graphic.
Other videos show long confronting alleged drug dealers and even being interviewed by a Reddit fan who started a giant thread. That interview has more than 400,000 views. The other videos have been cloned so many times it is difficult to get an accurate count of how many people have watched them.
Long doesn’t think his approach is too aggressive.
“You do what you are supposed to do or you get what’s coming to you,” Long told WSB.

It sounds like this gentleman is out there pretty much on his own dealing with the vermin. Which begs the question, where the hell is the APD?

I applaud him for how he handled the situation. The young ladies were asked to leave several times and refused. Their behavior in front of the children was unacceptable and that is why so many of our youth behave the way that they do. Training starts in the home. These mothers need to have their children taken and placed in better care. The young man that stepped forward after the young lady was tased is a poor excuse for a father. If he had any real concern for his child, he would have defused the situation before it even got to that point. However he thought their behavior was cute until she was tased. How can any of them call themselves parents? They make African American’s look bad and they are teaching their children that it is ok to be hood and ghetto.
