Funds raised for Atlanta security guard who ‘tased’ woman

A property manager, whose video of his “tasing” a woman in downtown Atlanta sent a jolt through the internet, may soon receive thousands of dollars from an online fundraising effort.

The fund for Darrien Long, a “kick [bleep] mall cop,” was up to $23,000 Tuesday morning on Crowdtilt.com.

Long told WSB-TV he believes his Taser and chest-mounted video camera are the best tools he has to maintain order at Metro Mall, a collection of small businesses just south of Underground Atlanta on Peachtree Street. He tells WSB he works to “clean up the neighborhood” so more businesses will move into the area.

The money being raised since Saturday will allegedly go directly to Long so he can buy “better and more gear.”

Residents of the area told WSB’s Amy Napier Viteri the rowdy behavior seen on the video is typical, and thinks it’s a shame it happens so close to the state Capitol, the county courthouse and City Hall.

Long’s video, shot in May, began getting attention after it was published last week on YouTube. The video shows Long confronting two women and asking them to leave the mall. The women become combative, one woman spits on him and another hits him in the head, before he uses a Taser. The women were later charged with disorderly conduct. The tasered woman was also charged with criminal trespass and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

The video is on YouTube, but be warned, the language, including that by small children, is graphic.

Other videos show long confronting alleged drug dealers and even being interviewed by a Reddit fan who started a giant thread. That interview has more than 400,000 views. The other videos have been cloned so many times it is difficult to get an accurate count of how many people have watched them.

Long doesn’t think his approach is too aggressive.

“You do what you are supposed to do or you get what’s coming to you,” Long told WSB.

GOOD. Maybe people should carry tasers instead of guns. Makes the punished person look more a fool.

I feel sorry for the kids. Poor kids.
To act this way when you have kids is deplorable.
And we wonder why some kids are bad and disrespectful to our underpaid teachers..
The children are a reflection on the parents, the mimic everthing that we do and say
Teach them well

Heh. bravesfan79, while mocking someone’s stupid behavior, actually typed the word ‘walefare’.

Where you from, bubba?

Good for him! If you start attacking a stranger, let alone security, you better be prepared to be punched/kicked/tased/shot. The real tragedy is that this pathetic excuse for a grown woman is going to raise her kids to be just as ignorant, stupid, and unsuccessful. I wonder what HER Mom is like? I live about two miles from where this went down and it’s a shame these idiots roam the streets down there, making it downright uncomfortable for normal, balanced citizens to go there. Thankfully this shines a light not only on these trashy people but also on one of our stand up citizens! We need more people like Darrien!

I have been an advocate of using the taser as an alternative to deadly force only. Few police departments have any restrictions on the use of the taser or how many times a subject can be tased.
The authorities use and like the taser because they do not have to put their hands on the person. That makes it nice and neat.
However, several hundred if not thousand have died from being tased including one tased subject who was tased 18 times. 50,000 volts is not life enhancing, the electric chair only has 25,000 volts.
So my recomendation, use an alternative. Let us face the facts, taking a life for a minor offense is very wrong.
I might add, if George Zimmerman had used a taser instead of leathal force, Travon Martin would have reached his 18th birthday.
I rest my case. I always wanted to say that.

that video is pretty funny. Those kids might have a 1 in a million chance. Just a nightmare. Welcome to the ATL.

Foxhunter… I misspelled my name name sorry. But you probably already know that. Also, Foxhunter is not a word. Dude… why do you care about misspellings on a silly blog. I think this is a perfect area for the new stadium.

It sounds like this gentleman is out there pretty much on his own dealing with the vermin. Which begs the question, where the hell is the APD?

I applaud him for how he handled the situation. The young ladies were asked to leave several times and refused. Their behavior in front of the children was unacceptable and that is why so many of our youth behave the way that they do. Training starts in the home. These mothers need to have their children taken and placed in better care. The young man that stepped forward after the young lady was tased is a poor excuse for a father. If he had any real concern for his child, he would have defused the situation before it even got to that point. However he thought their behavior was cute until she was tased. How can any of them call themselves parents? They make African American’s look bad and they are teaching their children that it is ok to be hood and ghetto.
