‘50 Shades’ gives Sugar Daddy websites, bondage a boost

Literature has often changed society.

Tracts by Thomas Paine helped rile up pre-Americans seeking government independence while Karl Marx riled up those seeking government dependence.

“50 Shades of Grey” by British author E. L. James is nothing like those books, but the erotic tome has boosted traffic at “Sugar Daddy” dating sites, reports Business Insider.

I’ve never read “50 Shades of Grey,” but trust a co-worker, who says she wanted to “stab her eyes out” while reading it with her book club.

A reader of this blog has a higher opinion of the book, saying “The 3-book series begins with Anastasia Steele, a young woman, meeting and falling for millionaire Christian Grey, a gorgeous man with a dark past who draws her into his world of BDSM.”

Whatever you think of the novel, it’s certainly getting people’s attention. “50 Shades” has sold 20 million copies and surpassed “Harry Potter & The Chamber Pot of Smelly Secrets” as the fastest-selling paperback of all time.

According to Brandon Wade, the millionaire founder of SeekingArrangement.com, a dating site for wealthy men that “want to date the best” and women that want help “mentally, emotionally and financially,” the novel has boosted business and sparked an apparent interest in bondage.

Wade says 186,000 female members of the site are actively seeking a “Christian Grey” type arrangement.

The businessman, an alleged virgin himself when he attended MIT, spills some dirt on his customers:

  • 79 percent of female members found the idea of succumbing to a ‘dominant’ male like Grey a turnon
  • 90 percent of male members said they found the idea of woman being a ’submissive’ like Steele exciting
  • 43 percent said they were more likely to use handcuffs in sexual role play
  • 47 percent wanted to experiment with blindfolds and other bondage gear

Hmmmm … “Of Human Bondage” says nothing like that.

I enjoy your blog Mr. Mathis. Fifty Shades of Grey is an addiction for me. I absolutely love the series. I’m a kinkster and would like a stable wealthy man. As for my friends, they are into a sugar daddy but after reading these books, they have drawn an interest towards BDSM.
