Kids throw garbage in Sept. 11 memorial pool

Learning to ignore bad children and parenting is a painful but worthwhile endeavor, though it retards the advancement of civilization.

Despite my zen, I’m not sure I could have turned the other cheek if I’d observed junior high students tossing garbage into the reflecting pool at the September 11 Memorial in New York City.

Fox News reports one of the kids was detained by police for having bullets in his pockets.

“These kids just need to be educated about what happened there,” said New Yorker Anthoula Kastinatides, whose brother died in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

The kids were on a summer field trip with a Brooklyn public school. New York’s school chancellor said the students who threw garbage into the memorial, which opened Sept. 11, 2011, in Lower Manhattan, may be punished. The kid that had ammunition faces a police investigation.

And who knows, maybe a parent will get involved?

I was at the 911 Memorial in late May. We had to go through security before entering the Memorial. We also had to go through security before entering the Empire State Building, and before taking the boat to the Statue of Liberty. Everyone at the Memorial was so reverent and quiet when we where there. Hard to imagine someone throwing trash into the reflecting pools.

@ not surprised

Your ignorant comment reminds me of the two grown ups who flipped the finger as they drove passed us at high rate of speed in Peachtree City, causing my second grade girl to flip her finger to me and ask, “Daddy, what does this mean?” I said, “darling, it means we have an Obama sticker on our car.”

So, “is anyone surprised . . . conservative city, conservative state, conservative school system.”

Pull your radio out of your *ss long enough to turn Rush Limbaugh off, and maybe you will get a little more blood to your brain.

First, they should pick up every piece of trash that they threw in the memorial (that’s the easy part), and then, they should be force to pick every piece of trash in new york city!!!! And then, a public whomping should take place!!! I’m not for cruel and unusual punishment (so I hope this post doesn’t seem like a big oxymoron) but I would vote for a tougher punishment system in this country…. federal prisons shouldn’t be caged- in 5 star hotels…..

Ignorance. Pure ignorance from a city that breeds disrespect for authority and education. These kids deserve to go to public schools in brooklyn

At least they didn’t pee in it. As for throwing trash in it, that’s what filters are for.

Those New Yorkers have no idea how the events of 9/11 impacted this country.

I have to agree with a previous poster. A second field trip with brooms, dust bins, and garbage bags seem in order. Let them learn how to clean what they messed up. Have them say “I will never forget the Sept 11 terrorist attacks” out loud the entire time they are cleaning.
